6 Advertising Because of the affordability of the television set, businesses saw this as their opportunity to showcase their product to millions of more people than the radio or the newspaper. At first, commercials were relatively cheap, and a single company would sponsor an entire television program. But do to the rise in demand, commercials were forced to become short and sweet, and became quite expensive.
