Focus on Opportunities to Achieve Rapid Return Invest in Ways to Standardize and Simplify with a Global Business Platform KEY MESSAGE: With Release 12.1, we look at E-Business suite in two different ways. One is the opportunities to achieve rapid return. Feedback from CIOs is that they’re often looking for investments that will have a 6-9 month payback in this environment. So, we’ll highlight the capabilities in the E-Business Suite that answer the needs that come up in that type of conversation. There’s also an ongoing need that companies have to standardize and simplify, either because of cost pressures or because of merger and acquisition activity. Organizations today can’t afford the luxury of having redundant, duplicative or inefficient systems with expensive integrations. So the opportunity to standardize and simplify on a common platform is a way to eliminate costs and be more efficient in this environment. This functionality was essentially removed from all of the subsystems and centralized to provide a great deal more control, efficiency and flexibility, ultimately enabling organizations to achieve a lower TCO. Multiple Ledgers represents the new and improved ledger architecture that directly supports faster, simpler period end closing. Sets of Books have been replaced by Ledgers within Ledger Sets. A ledger, is specifically the general accounting for a company. Now, opening and closing, calendar management, and reporting move to the Ledger Set rather than the individual ledger. And: you can write accounting adjustments across the ledger set, and the results will be posted into the individual ledgers. Centralized Architecture includes a rules-based accounting engine, unified bank account model, centralized payments and global tax engine, as well as, improved global intercompany capabilities. This centralized architecture allows you to not only centralize core functions but also creates standardization across the enterprise. 41 Material Status Material Status control restricts the movement and usage of portions of on-hand inventory. Using material status control enables you to control whether you can pick or ship an internal order or sales order, or issue material for a work order. You can also specify whether material needs to be quarantined until you inspect it. In addition, you can determine whether products with a particular status can be reserved, included in available to promise calculations, or netted in production planning. You assign material statuses at four levels: subinventory, locator, lot, and serial. 41

You can create picking rules that enable you to sort picks based on criteria that you define for sales orders, process manufacturing batches, or work in process jobs. Oracle Inventory reviews the picking criteria order and the options for each criterion. 42

Instead of being able to view and select all items for all customers in the sales orders window, you can now restrict the item list based on customer and other related criteria. If the value of the profile option OM: Use Materialized View for Items LOV (Honours Item Orderability Rules) is set to No, then the Ordered Items LOV lists all the items of the item validation organization of the current operating unit. This doesn't consider the defined item orderability rules, however if there is a defined rule that prevents the item from being ordered, then an error message is displayed during the saving of the order. You will not be able to save the order.

With this release, the transaction flows have been enhanced to support multiple funding sources. Simplified Procurement for Multi-Purpose Contingent Workers Prior to this release, Project Costing required you to define the allocation of funding across projects when entering the purchase order. With this release, Services Procurement and Project Costing now have the ability to allocate funding based on time and expense entry. You are no longer required to estimate allocations during purchase order entry and therefore are no longer required to adjust the estimates as work occurs reducing purchase order maintenance and making it easier for workers to report their time accurately. 51

Generate forecast using planned values In the Generation Options page, select “Copy ETC from Plan” You can only enable the new option when Plan Type is “Cost Only” Time Phasing is enabled in the ‘Plan Settings’ page Task Level Selection is enabled on the Edit Planning Options page Either “Financial Plan” or “Work plan Resource” is selected as the ETC Source in the Edit Planning Options page Change Document and Open Commitment are not enabled in the Generation Options page You can now generate forecast using planned values. In the past customers had to choose a spread value to apply to a forecast of work. Now they can manually enter the work contour for a task and have the forecast honor those manual entries.
