Jesus: Cultural Expectation Isaiah 49- Restoration of Israel –The Law reinstated and demanded Isaiah 42- Addition of Gentiles –Gentile obedience to the Law (circumcision) Everlasting Kingdom of David –Physical king INSTEAD JESUS CAME!!!! A GREATER FULFILLMENT
A FEW APPLICATIONS: Our culture can greatly influence our expectations Clinging to the word allows our expectations to better fit the fulfillment. God’s fulfillment is often much greater than what we might ever expect. We must be willing to accept the fulfillment.
