Jesus Promised … I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly. (John 10:10 NASB)

Abundant Life Overflowing, overcoming, overwhelming life Not an abundance of things – but an abundance from the One who gives life

John Paul Getty was one of the worlds richest men Mansion surrounded by vicious dogs All 500 windows were barred Bedroom door embedded in steel Was married and divorced 5 times Had five sons – none close to him –One died of brain tumor and Getty did not even attend the funeral –Another committed suicide –Another was disinherited due to use of drugs –When a grandson was kidnapped – he refused to pay the ransom believing his son made it up to get money Stingier with his love than with his money

The Abundant Life In spite of Calamity Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, "FOR THY SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED." But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:35-39 NASB)

The Abundant Life In spite of Calamity In spite of Conflicts What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? (Romans 8:31 NASB)

The Abundant Life In spite of Calamity In spite of Conflicts In spite of Criticism Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies; (Romans 8:33 NASB)

The Abundant Life In spite of Calamity In spite of Conflicts In spite of Criticism In spite of Circumstances Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, "FOR THY SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED." But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. (Romans 8:35-37 NASB)

The Abundant Life is in Jesus There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1 NASB)

The Abundant Life is in Jesus Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have ob- tained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:1-2)

What is the Abundant Life? Jesus said, "Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel's sake, but that he shall receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. (Mark 10:29-30 NASB) What kind of bank will give you 10,000%

What is the the Abundant Life? The secret to the abundant life is a good wife? He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the LORD. (Proverbs 18:22 NASB)

What is the the Abundant Life? The secret to the abundant life is children? A wise son makes a father glad, But a foolish son is a grief to his mother. (Proverbs 10:1 NASB) Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They shall not be ashamed, When they speak with their enemies in the gate. (Psalms 127:4-5 NASB) Grandchildren

What is the the Abundant Life? Being free from pain and chronic illness? Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; Who pardons all your iniquities; Who heals all your diseases; (Psalms 103:1-3 NASB)

What is the the Abundant Life? Maybe an abundance of things? And He said to them, "Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions." (Luke 12:15 NASB) Solomon’s Wealth (2 Chron 1:11-12) “will give you riches, wealth, and honor”

Paul’s Abundant Life did not depend on these things Paul did not have a wife – but he had many who ministered to him Paul did not have children – but he had many children in the gospel Paul did not have good health – but God’s grace was sufficient –Thorn in the flesh (2 Cor 12:7-9) –Speech was contemptible (2 Cor 10:10) Had suffered the loss of all things (Phil 3:8) but would obtain the resurrection of the death

Paul’s Abundant Life did not depend on these things What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ-- the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. (Philippians 3:8-11 NIV)

Paul said this while in prison Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:4-7 NIV)

Paul said this while in prison Not that I speak from want; for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:11-13 NASB)

What is the the Abundant Life? Based on our FATHER Let your character be free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, "I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU," so that we confidently say, "THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT SHALL MAN DO TO ME?" (Hebrews 13:5-6 NASB)

What is the the Abundant Life? Based on our FATHER Blessed with a FAMILY Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. (Romans 12:10-13 NASB)

What is the the Abundant Life? Based on our FATHER Blessed with a FAMILY Begun and sustained through FORGIVENESS In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, (Ephesians 1:7 NASB) We sin greatly and are forgiven abundantly If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9 NASB)

What is the the Abundant Life? Based on our FATHER Blessed with a FAMILY Begun and sustained through FORGIVENESS Brightened by the FUTURE I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing. (2 Timothy 4:7-8 NASB)

Jesus said don’t worry!!! Christ was born into a world far worse than ours – even in the worse depression time. He lived in a world of disease, distress, and dismay. When he lived a person could die from receiving a scratch on his face. Diseases knocked out in 24 hours by antibiotics today were deadly then. They had no stockpiles of food so they were only one harvest away from famine. Wells could be easily contaminated or run dry. Taxes were extreme. Political and religious freedom could be taken away at a moments notice by a ruler. Jesus had the audacity to sit down and teach his audiences, “Do not be anxious” (Matt 6:25)

What is Jesus saying about worry? He is not saying it is wrong to prepare for the future – the ant is an example about laying up for winter Not wrong to have concern about a sick relative, Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus (John 11:35) Not wrong to have concern about churches and individuals, Paul did (2 Cor 11:28) He is saying that Christians should be free of doubt and free from being over anxious If he takes care of the small animals – he can take care of us if we put his kingdom first He made us – he can resurrect us

What is Jesus saying about worry? The weight of worry is useless Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? (Matthew 6:27 NIV)

What is Jesus saying about worry? The weight of worry is useless Worry is unwise: tend to put tomorrow into today and bring yesterday into today But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:33-34 NIV)

5 Gifts God Gives to help us not worry and live the abundant life His Presence We tend to associate God with a church building and assemblies – God is present in our lives The 3 Hebrews in the fire Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, "Weren't there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?" They replied, "Certainly, O king." He said, "Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods." (Daniel 3:24-25)

5 Gifts God Gives to help us not worry and live the abundant life His Presence His Pardon If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense-- Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 1:9 - 2:2 NIV)

5 Gifts God Gives to help us not worry and live the abundant life His Presence His Pardon His Provisions And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. … Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. (2 Corinthians 9:8-11 NIV)

His Presence His Pardon His Provisions His Purpose So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV) 5 Gifts God Gives to help us not worry and live the abundant life

His Presence His Pardon His Provisions His Purpose His Peace Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27 NIV) 5 Gifts God Gives to help us not worry and live the abundant life
