The Ten Virgins Five were wise, five foolish All were waiting for the bridegroom to come We can compare this to ourselves – 2 Pet. 3:1- 10 All of us are in the same situation; but not all will be ready
The Five Foolish Virgins Assumed the oil they had would be enough Paul certainly did not have this attitude – Phil. 3:12-14 Assumed their oil wouldn’t burn out The Word implores us to always seek after more oil – 2 Cor. 3:17-18 Through trials & temptations, our spiritual oil gets used up – 1 Pet. 5:8-9
The Five Foolish Virgins Assumed they could borrow oil from the others Look at how Jesus saw the church at Sardis – Rev. 3:1-5 Assumed the bridegroom would overlook their shortcomings It is important that our actions reflect what is in our hearts – Matt. 12:33-37
Conclusion Am I wise or foolish? How well do we know the fruit of the Spirit, and God’s Word as a whole? This is our oil! We should know them, and also work on them, study them to keep our lamps filled
