Topics  What the Bible teaches about time  The Bible and the Big Bang  The Bible, Big Bang and Logic  Science and the Big Bang  What the Bible teaches about time  The Bible and the Big Bang  The Bible, Big Bang and Logic  Science and the Big Bang

What Is the Big Bang?  The big bang is a secular story about how the universe came into existence.  The big bang presupposes billions of years.  The big bang is a singularity.  The big bang is a secular story about how the universe came into existence.  The big bang presupposes billions of years.  The big bang is a singularity. A hypothetical point in space and time when the universe (all matter) was infinitely compressed.

The Question At Hand Did God use the big bang as part of His creation process?

The issue of time and the word “day”

GENESIS 1 ALWAYS Means an ORDINARY DAY “DAY” WITH NUMBER (in singular and plural) 410 times the first day. the second day. the third day. the fourth day. the fifth day. the sixth day.

GENESIS 1 ALWAYS Means an ORDINARY DAY “EVENING” & “MORNING” TOGETHER WITHOUT “DAY” 38 times evening and the morning were the first day. evening and the morning were the second day. evening and the morning were the third day.

2 Peter 3:8 1 Day Figure of speech But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. Exodus 20:11

Literal Interpretation Creation 6 Days (Perfect) The Fall (Sin)

If God Used the Big BangCreation Billions of Years The Fall (Sin) Adam Eve

The Gospel If sin was not the cause of death then why did Jesus have to go to the cross?

The Bible teaches the works of God are perfect. Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; Job 36:4 For truly my words are not false; One who is perfect in knowledge is with you.

And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good Genesis 1:31 And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good Genesis 1:31 Millions of years of death and decay Perfect No death

Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. The Words of Jesus

Creation in 6 daysBillions of years Genesis 1:31 a perfect creation Creation full of decay and destruction Logic God is not the Creator of all things God created all things. (Gen 1, Isa 45:12, Col 1:16, Jer 32:17, Neh 9:6, John 1:3, Acts 14:15, Eph 3:9, Heb 11:3, Rev 4:11)

Earth, starsStars, earth Birds, reptilesReptiles, birds WaterMolten mass Sun, land plantsLand plants, sun Man before death Death before man

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:17

God’s solution - Jesus ChristGod’s solution - Jesus Christ How He acted to save usHow He acted to save us The core of the GospelThe core of the Gospel Christ

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: (The Core/Power of the Gospel)

Christ God’s creation was perfectGod’s creation was perfect He sets the rulesHe sets the rules We are accountable to HimWe are accountable to Him Why we call Him LordWhy we call Him Lord God

Christ Man The Fall – sin (separation from God)The Fall – sin (separation from God) The problem – man disobeyed GodThe problem – man disobeyed God Why we dieWhy we die Why we need a SaviorWhy we need a Savior God

Christ Man God Response For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

Christ Big Bang Response Why did Jesus have to go to the Cross? A Different Foundation

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. Galatians 1:6-7

Conclusion  The big bang undermines the foundation for the Gospel.  The big bang presupposes death before sin.  The big bang makes God the author of death and decay.  The big bang is not logically compatible with the Bible.  The big bang has many scientific problems.

Fact, Theory, or Speculation Problems 6

The Origin of Stars Earth Science: Geology, the Environment, and the Universe, Glencoe and McGraw-Hill, 2002, p “All stars form in much the same manner as the Sun did. The formation of a star begins with a cloud of interstellar gas and dust, called a nebula, which collapses on itself as a result of its own gravity…. The condensed object will become a new star.”

And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. Genesis 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. Genesis 1:16 The Origin of Stars

Star Formation and Physics The popular idea is that stars form from vast clouds of gas and dust through gravitational contraction. Gas and dust clouds will expand NOT contract Nebula

“The complete birth of a star has never been observed.” Don DeYoung (Ph.D. in Physics), Astronomy and the Bible, 2000, p. 84.

“Precisely how a section of an interstellar cloud collapses gravitationally into a star … is still a challenging theoretical problem… Astronomers have yet to find an interstellar cloud in the actual process of collapse.” Fred Whipple, The Mystery of Comets, (Washington, D.C.: Smithsonian Institute Press, 1985), pp. 211, 213.

“ It [star formation] has never been observed, nor could it truly be observed since the process is supposed to take hundreds of thousands of years. Gas in space is very resistant to being compressed into a star. Compression of gas causes an increase in magnetic field strength, gas pressure, and angular momentum,…” Jason Lisle (Ph.D. Astrophysics), The New Answers Book 3, 2009, p 193.

“Despite numerous efforts, we have yet to directly observe the process of stellar formation…. The origin of stars represents one of the fundamental unsolved problems of contemporary astrophysics.” Charles Lada and Frank Shu (both astronomers), “The Formation of Sunlike Stars,” Science, 1990, p. 572.

“Without ‘something else’ the outward pressure due to kinetic energy of the gas molecules in the cloud is so much greater than the inward pressure due to the mutual gravitational attraction of the cloud that the resulting net outward pressure would cause the gas cloud to disperse rather than collapse.” John Hartnett (Ph.D. Physics), Dismantling the Big Bang, 2005, p. 144.

“The truth is that we don’t understand star formation at a fundamental level.” Abraham Loeb, (Harvard Center for Astrophysics), quoted by Marcus Chown, “Let there be Light”, New Scientist, Feb 7, Conclusion on Star Formation

Problem #6 The Bible In the beginning God created

17 times the Bible declares that God stretched the heavens 2 Sam 22:10 Job 37:18 Isaiah 51:13 Psalm 18:9 Isaiah 40:22 Jeremiah 10:12 Psalm 104:2 Isaiah 42:5 Jeremiah 51:15 Psalm 144:5 Isaiah 44:24 Ezekiel 1:22 Job 9:8 Isaiah 45:12 Zechariah 12:1 Job 26:7 Isaiah 48:13 2 Sam 22:10 Job 37:18 Isaiah 51:13 Psalm 18:9 Isaiah 40:22 Jeremiah 10:12 Psalm 104:2 Isaiah 42:5 Jeremiah 51:15 Psalm 144:5 Isaiah 44:24 Ezekiel 1:22 Job 9:8 Isaiah 45:12 Zechariah 12:1 Job 26:7 Isaiah 48:13

The entire Bible begins with the words, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. The word “inspiration” (Greek theopneustos) literally means “God-breathed” The Authority of Scripture 2 Timothy 3:16-17

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: The Authority of Scripture Colossians 1:16

These Scriptures beg the question: Question

Ah Lord God! Behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: Jeremiah 32:17 Do we believe this?

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Through faith we understand that the universe created itself. By faith we understand stars and galaxies formed. By faith we understand planets and all life formed. Two Contrasting Statements
