Camden residents can apply to Islington schools Camden residents can apply to Islington schools Islington residents can apply to Camden schools Islington residents can apply to Camden schools You fill it all in on the same form for the borough you live in You fill it all in on the same form for the borough you live in To request an Islington brochure if you do not live in the borough, please contact secondary schools admissions please phone: 020 7527 5515 or email your query to: admissions.@islington.gov.uk admissions.@islington.gov.uk

Before deciding which schools to apply for, you should gather as much information about the schools as possible. For example read the descriptions in the booklet, get information from elsewhere, obtain the schools own information booklets, visit the schools on the open days/ evenings. Make sure you are clear which schools require you to complete a supplementary form in addition to the form for your home borough and ensure that the supplementary form is returned to the school on time. You can apply for up to six schools and these must be ordered by your preference. Please do not include special or independent/private schools. Choosing a school

Your application allows you to apply for six schools in order of your preference. We advise parents to apply for as many schools as possible. You need to be realistic about the chances of your application being successful. You should remember that most schools receive more applications than they have places available so will not be able to make offers to everyone who applies. When deciding who should receive a place at an oversubscribed school the published admission criteria must be used*. None of the secondary schools in Camden have associated feeder primary schools, so please be aware that just because your child has been attending a particular primary school, it does not mean that s/he will automatically be given a place at a particular secondary school in the borough. If you live near the borough boundary you may have a chance of securing a place in a school in the neighbouring authority. *To view the criteria applied at Camden Community schools see page 18 For voluntary aided schools please refer to the schools own pages within this booklet. Your school preferences

AdmissionsCriteria * Proof of “Looked after” status will be requested from the relevant Local Authority ** Sibling refers to brother or sister, half brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, step brother or sister, and in every case, the child should be living in the same family unit at the same address. This information will need to be validated by the school in question *** Independent professional evidence must be included with the application. (Faith schools will have additional faith based criteria)

What is the Distance admissions criteria? Some schools have additional variations such as Camden School for Girls below: Distance - applicants whose permanent home is nearest to the school, measured in a straight line (‘as the crow flies’). For applicants for September 2013, the school will only consider applications under this criterion from those living within 0.9682 miles of the school entrance. If more than 216 applications are received under this criterion, the school only considers the 216 applicants living closest to the school. In Camden we do not have catchment areas for community schools and none of the secondary schools have feeder primary schools. Therefore, just because your child attends a particular primary school, does not mean that he or she will automatically be given a place at a particular secondary school. Most families, (if there are no special factors or siblings) will be applying under the distance criterion when trying for a place at a Camden community school. For clarification on whether your application will be considered under the distance criterion, please use the flow chart on page 18. To determine whether an offer will be likely under this criterion, you will need to find out how far you live from the school. You can then compare your distance with those students who were offered in previous years (see page 64 in the Camden booklet). These distances are for guidance only and can change each year The website below will help you to locate your nearest schools and their approximate distance from your home: Camden.gov.uk/admissions.
