3 In the last 10 years there has been: –30% increase in births across the borough –42% increase in births in Acton Between 2005-06 (2010 entry) and 2009-10 (2014 entry) there has been: –15% increase in births across the borough –33% increase in births in Acton The council have received 750 more on-time reception applications for 2012 reception than in 2011 –19FE additional classes in 2011 across borough –Increase in birth to reception retention rate Ealing is investing over £120 million in expansion of primary places to ensure good quality facilities in schools Context

4 Primary schools Permanently expanding by 24FE across borough New schools and expansion of existing schools Ensuring pupils are offered places near to their homes High schools New high school opening in Greenford in September 2013 Looking for sites for a new high school in Ealing/ Acton for later in the decade SEN Shortly consulting on SEN strategy and expansion in Spring Term

5 Update on local plans Two new schools to be opened in Acton:  The Holy Family Catholic Primary School, a 2FE school opening in September 2012  A new school at Priory Centre, a 2FE school sponsored by ARK opening in September 2013 Berrymede Infant and Juniors will expand permanently by 1FE (from 3FE to 4FE) Proposals to be published for the expansion of West Acton Primary by 1FE (from 2FE to 3FE) and an SEN unit

6 Projections and births In 2010 there were 5861 births to Ealing residents, the second highest in London Since births started increasing in 2003, Ealing has experienced the highest increase in births in London with an increase of 1382 between 2003 and 2010 Births are likely to hit 6000 in 2012 and remain at this level (possibly rising) for at least 5 years Likely to need further permanent expansions across the borough Report to cabinet in March 2012 Looking again at possible sites for new schools

7 Proposals for Southfield 2012 Council are asking the school to consider bulge class plans for 2012 reception intake In autumn 2011 the council approached the school to develop proposals for a bulge Aiming to be proactive and ensure that plans are developed which work, are deliverable and provide a lasting benefit Intention that this bulge would be the final at Southfield Look at the proposals (ECH)

8 Next steps February 2012  Discuss the proposals with parents/ carers  Governing Body to formally consider proposals Should the bulge class proceed  A planning application will be made  Early April offers made to parents/ carers  Works will take place during the summer holiday period
