As people worked, traded, and traveled, Byzantine ideas, religion, and culture spread throughout the region.

20 The End of the Byzantine Empire In 1453, the city was finally and permanently conquered by the Ottoman Turks and renamed Istanbul. Byzantine culture, law, and administration came to its final end.
