8 DRIVING FOR WORK = HIGHER RISK n20 people killed and 220 seriously injured a week in work-related road crashes (HSE/DfT) nCompany car drivers 49% more likely to crash (TRL) nDrivers with high % of work-related driving 53% more crashes (TRL) nCompany car, van, truck and lorry drivers have high ‘blameworthiness’ ratio (DfT) nAt-work drivers higher levels of risk-taking (DfT)

13 THREE KEY STEPS 1) Where are we now? Vehicles, drivers, miles, crashes, causes, costs? Management system (policy, organisation, planning, monitoring, review)? 2) Set up a team (H&S, HR, Fleet, Safety Reps ) develop ‘management system’, Seek external partners 3) Develop an ‘action plan’ to: assess risks, prioritise interventions set standards, targets, timescales etc implement monitor, review and feed back lessons learned RoSPA’s Mission is to Save Lives and Reduce Injuries
