Current Projects Architectural Modeling and Simulation. City Planning. Medical Visualization. VR Development Kit. 5

Architectural Modeling 6

3D model of an apartment. Provides virtual walkthrough. Adding interaction in pipeline. Architectural Modeling 7

Model of the Ryerson Student Learning Centre. The real centre will be completed by 2015. Cave can provide a virtual walkthrough of the building for further planning. 8

City Planning 10

City Planning Google Earth in the CAVE One can virtually fly around and visualize a city. Useful for city authorities for future construction planning. 11

Medical Visualization 12

Projects MRI data onto the CAVE. Doctors can virtually walk around inside the skull to plan a surgery. Medical Visualization 13

A planar display is used for intermediate experimentation before projecting it onto the CAVE. Medical Visualization 14

Different kinds of transfer functions are used for highlighting parts of interest. Medical Visualization 15

The model can be sliced open to view inside. Medical Visualization 16

VR Development Kit 17

VR Development Kit Distributes 3D models from master to slave computers and manipulates them remotely. Speeds up the development process and has full control over interactions. 18

Development Tools 3D Models created in Autodesk Maya. Converted to OpenGL compatible format. OpenSceneGraph is used for projection onto the CAVE. Visualization Toolkit (VTK) for medical visualization. 19

Thank you for your attention. 21

Scientific Support CAVE is a powerful tool in enabling scientists/engineers to visualize the mass of data for the purpose of data analysis and presentation, and provide virtual worlds to physically manipulate objects which could not be possible in real world. We would like to provide support for researchers in geology, material science, astronomy, biology, etc. 22 Go Back

Manufacturing In the fast-paced world of business and manufacturing, CAVE offers a means to improve productivity, increase safety, speed-up design cycles, raise product awareness, and other strategic advantages. Among many usage, we have most interests in helping for virtual prototyping in product development and collaborative work environments, allowing workers to more easily work with others who might be at a remote site. 23 Go Back

Medical Applications The CAVE is a new technology which will enable medical community to provide better medical care for patients. We have a broad interest in these fields ranging from drug design, empathy training, Phobia treatment, to during-operation assistance and telemedicine. 24 Go Back

Public Safety and Military Applications CAVE is used to help save lives indirectly by training firefighters, police, and military personnel. Using tele-presence, we can insulate safety personnel from danger, like carrying out dangerous missions from the safety of a remote location. 25 Go Back

Education Applications CAVE provides a true three-dimensional, interactive environment in which students can manipulate, explore, and modify their environment, and collaborate with others who may located elsewhere. It will provide new training for special education and also help in museums and zoos. Potential applications may help students in learning science space, ancient civilizations, etc. 26 Go Back

Miscellaneous CAVE also has many usages in various fields, like art, film, animations and gaming. In these fields, we have most interests in animation production and game designing. 27 Go Back
