5 Public Sector Ethics Act 1994 The Public Service Act provides for the administration of the Queensland public service including the employment and management of all public service employees. 12 Student Protection This procedure applies to all Education Queensland employees including school staff members, regional and central office personnel. It also includes other employees based at state schools (e.g. Youth Support Coordinators, School-Based Youth Health Nurses and Chaplains), volunteers and on- going visitors that have regular contact with students. Relevant contexts include escorting students on camps, excursions, educational programs external to a school including a TAFE college and tours within or outside Australia. 13 School Excursions School excursions (also referred to as variations to school routine in this policy) enhance students' learning by providing the opportunities for students to participate in curriculum-related activities outside the normal school routine. School excursions are well-planned curriculum-related activities that aim to maximize students' learning experiences. A Variation to School Routine Application must be completed for all school excursions. Variation to School Routine Applications are approved by the school principal and when more than one school is involved, principals of all participating schools approve the excursion. 16 Movement Regulations Queensland is divided into three cattle tick declared zones: free, control and infected. The purpose of the zones is to prevent the spread of cattle ticks by controlling the movement of stock from the infected zone or from restricted properties in either of the other zones. 17 Animal Ethics Animals are an integral and important part of education in most Queensland schools. Most school activities involving animals require approval from an appropriate animal ethics committee. This is a legal requirement because educational activities are generally considered to be for 'scientific purposes'. Species specific information documents give teachers and students information specific to the designated animal species on a range of animal husbandry and animal care topics. 18 Livestock Register All schools are required to keep a register of livestock on site, which includes: identifying marks and brands ownership details NLIS ID number of each animal 'from' PIC or place of departure 'to' PIC or place of destination serial number of the waybill or combined NVD/waybill date of movement method of movement why the animal is being kept at the Property.
