Technology Integration Marcia Catalano

“Effective use of technology requires improvements in teaching.” (Byrom et al, 2000) “[W]hen technology becomes an integral part of the classroom-learning environment it provides a tool for both teachers and students that can facilitate new roles and new instructional strategies.” (Boethel & Dimock, 1999)

About education... My Philosophy of EducationPhilosophy of Education The core of my philosophy, like Dewey, is to help students develop into well-rounded, intelligent, reflective, responsible, and adaptable citizens capable of attaining their goals and pursuing life-long learning (formal or otherwise). With widespread access to advanced technology in the classroom, I believe teachers have the opportunity to broaden curricular horizons. Technology, however, is a double-edged sword. As teachers, we also have the responsibility to utilize that tool with meaning and purpose. (EDU577) PhilosophyTechnology IntegrationTeacher ToolsStudent ToolsIntegration in ActionResources

On technology Integration... Philosophy of Education Reflection –The time has come to embrace technology, immersing students in its use and integrating various applications throughout curricular activities - much as would be done in a language course. In addition, I believe it is imperative to equip students with the skills necessary to analyze, process, and manage the abundance of information available to them. (EDU545) Expectations for Learning and Teaching with TechnologyExpectations for Learning and Teaching with Technology –It is essential that teachers be proficient technology users to better meet students’ needs. (EDU553) PhilosophyTechnology IntegrationTeacher ToolsStudent ToolsIntegration in ActionResources

Technology Integration is... more than Papers and PowerPoints “... achieved when students are able to select technology tools to help them obtain information in a timely manner, analyze and synthesize the information, and present it professionally.” (Connecting Curriculum and Technology, 2000)
