1 Please Note IBM’s statements regarding its plans, directions, and intent are subject to change or withdrawal without notice at IBM’s sole discretion. Information regarding potential future products is intended to outline our general product direction and it should not be relied on in making a purchasing decision. The information mentioned regarding potential future products is not a commitment, promise, or legal obligation to deliver any material, code or functionality. Information about potential future products may not be incorporated into any contract. The development, release, and timing of any future features or functionality described for our products remains at our sole discretion. Performance is based on measurements and projections using standard IBM benchmarks in a controlled environment. The actual throughput or performance that any user will experience will vary depending upon many factors, including considerations such as the amount of multiprogramming in the user’s job stream, the I/O configuration, the storage configuration, and the workload processed. Therefore, no assurance can be given that an individual user will achieve results similar to those stated here.

2 Shifts Market in the digital economy
Shift in personalized computing to mobile using cloud services Shift towards unbundled business offerings Shift towards killer-apps transforming industries Shift in personal computing We unplugged the PC and went mobile – one, two, three devices are now the norm. Importantly 44% of all personal computing time is now on a smartphone or tablet. (Digital disruption: Evolving usage and the new value chain, February, 2014) Shift from voice to data We shifted from using more voice to more data, in how we communicate. We use our phones to talk only 20% of time, the rest of the time is devoted to data intensive activity such as using apps, browsing websites, playing games and consuming digital streaming content. (Digital disruption: Evolving usage and the new value chain, February, 2014) Shift to unbundled content and services Our behavior has changed with content and services as well – we’ve gone from accepted pre-package bundled content to a long tail fragmented mode, where we pick and choose what we want to consume or use. And when it comes to content, its completely user-driven and many times time-shifted or device-shifted. DVR content, video services such as Netflix and watching videos on PC makes up 48% of all video consumed (Digital disruption: Evolving usage and the new value chain, February, 2014). Consumers are unbundling services they buy in the same way. 2

3 A Building Block Approach
Responding to these shifts requires a new approach the Composable Business A Building Block Approach Restless Reinvention and Process Innovation Better Decision Making from Actionable Insights Accelerated Time to Market To stay relevant and be essential, you must create: New business models – cloud based – business or IT delivered as a service. Models that allow you to extend your business to for others to participate in. Client experiences that are contextual, relevant and at the point of greatest impact. A building block approach to business design that allows you to build and rebuild your processes to respond to continuous changes. This is a new type of business. A business that reinvents their approach to process, development and operations, infrastructure and transacting. You must reinvent to become a Composable Business. Secure Integration across Business & Technology 3

4 It is estimated that by 2016 more than one-fourth of the world’s applications will be available in the cloud, and 85% of new software is now being built for cloud deployment. Application Aware Service Driven Resource Smart Composable Buz is Service Driven,Application Aware and Resources Smart…as we get into the Cloud Layers in Next slide we see as each Layer “as a Service” Composable Business On or Off Premise 4 4

5 The Composable Business is built on the “as a Service” environment…with a goal of enabling the API economy From Software Defined Environments to Cloud Operating Environment to an API Economy API economy (Marketplace) Software as a Service External ecosystem Analytics Commerce Collaboration Location Data Services API Marketplace App Solutions Cloud operating environment (BlueMix) Platform as a Service Development Big Data and analytics Security Integration Mobile Social Services and composition patterns API & Integration Services Traditional Workloads Applications are developed OR COMPOSED using APIs (application Programming Interface). The Composable Buz it’s the power shift to the Developers (next page) Software- defined environment (SoftLayer) Infrastructure as a Service Software-defined networking Resource abstraction and optimization Software-defined storage Software-defined compute Workload definition, optimization and orchestration

6 No organization can get there instantly,
Challenge is to balance optimizing existing systems with such innovation fuels investments in innovation drives need for continuous optimization Innovation Optimization 6 6 6 6 6

7 The Evolution of Cloud Virtualization Cloud Enabled Dynamic Hybrid
“I want to get more out of my existing hardware” “I want to move my existing middleware workloads to the cloud” “I want to strategically use public and private cloud together”. Business Services (SaaS) Cloud Native “I want to use an app without having to own it” “I want to rapidly build new, born on the cloud, engaging applications in a continuous delivery model”

8 A Power Shift The next billion dollar idea starts with a single developer. That developer starts with a single line of code. New App Culture Has New Expectations: Integrated Mobile Iterative Ecosystem We see a proliferation of Solution we use every day in our smartphones that came from few line developed buy 1-2 people Our BM is a Platform created with the New Developers in mind build in such a way to complements their processes …it really starts with a line of code ad you can integrate very easely with many “tiles” /services already available to you. Integration become key element for all “evolution” of new services that will plug into an existing architecture of Solutions “services” in the legacy word Iterative is another very interesting concept, in the new world “upgrades” happen daily (or more often vs yearly) so the whole systems supports this AGILLITY of continues delivery Last but ot Least smartly take advantage of the ECOSYSTEM to leverage what already exists add delta deliver fast maximize impact…which clearly has an impact on the bottom line COSTs…as we see into next slide

9 Composing of an application, not traditional writing of an application
Add Monitoring service instance ITERATE 6 Create app 1 TASK: Create a secure application that analyses sentiment about certain topics in social media Secure the service Add database service 2 5 Add social analytics service Extract social media data into database 4 3
