2 Natural Gas – the cleaner, greener fuel! Natural gas is the cleanest-burning fossil fuel with 45 percent fewer carbon dioxide emissions than coal. Natural gas is extremely efficient — 90 percent of natural gas is delivered to appliances as useable energy compared to only 30 percent of electricity. The average natural gas home emits 46 percent less carbon dioxide or CO2 than an average all-electric home. Natural Gas is a plentiful domestic source of energy. Newly discovered reserves of natural gas make it a natural bridge to future renewables in addition to all of the other efficiency and environmental benefits.

3 Energy Conservation Programs Programs include: –Free programmable thermostats or rebate for purchase of programmable thermostat of customer’s choice –High efficiency home heating and water heater rebates –Seasonal heating check-up rebates –Low-income weatherization program –ENERGY STAR residential new construction program –Air filter coupons –Dealer checkout program –Community outreach and customer education program energy SMART – Save Money and Resources Today

9 Low Income Weatherization Program Administration will be handled by Southeastern Tidewater Opportunity Project (STOP) and the Williamsburg/James City County Community Action Network They will administer consistent with current practices, but supplement federal funds to enhance improvements/increased efficiency of natural gas systems and provide services to additional customers at 75% of median income We will provide a portion of funds allocated to each agency consistent with projected need based on demographics and provide additional funds based on response

10 ENERGY STAR Residential New Construction Program ENERGY STAR Residential New Construction Program: –Number of Participants: 20 –Eligible Incentives: $250 for ENERGY STAR Certification Builders are eligible for a $250 rebate for receiving the ENERGY STAR Certificate for a home. The rebate is designed to be applied against the cost of the ENERGY STAR inspections, testing, and modeling; a pilot program to encourage the installation of highly energy efficient ENERGY STAR rated equipment in residential new construction rather than the standard less- costly and less-efficient equipment Builders participating in this pilot program are also eligible for the energySMART rebates on natural gas water heaters and a natural gas furnace
