START Exit This presentation is designed to assist teams in determining whether their student is a candidate for the California Modified Assessment, as an alternative to the CST or CAPA. This tool is based on the participation criteria provided by the California Department of Education. participation criteriaCalifornia Department of Education

2 WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING APPLY? This is the students first time participating in State Testing The student has taken the CST The student has taken the CAPA Exit

3 NO MAY NOT TAKE THE CMA To take the CMA the student needs to have participated in STAR testing in either of the following two ways: –CAPA level in at least two previous years –CST level in a previous year Exit

4 WHAT IS THEIR CAPA LEVEL? I II IV III V Exit

5 NO STUDENT MUST HAVE PARTICIPATED IN CAPA LEVELS 2-5 Exit

6 WHAT WERE THE STUDENTS CST SCORES? Select for just one Subject. You will need to return to this screen for the other subjects. AdvancedProficient Far Below BasicBelow Basic Basic This is the first year this subject has been offered Exit

7 NO STUDENT MAY NOT TAKE THE CMA IN THIS SUBJECT AREA Students must have scored Below Basic or Far Below Basic in this subject area on the CST to take the CMA Pick another Subject Exit

8 DEPENDS… Base decision on the results of the Math or English/Language Arts scores. For example, when considering Science, the IEP team should determine whether Math and/or English/Language Arts has the greatest impact on his performance in the science classroom. Scores on the CST in the selected area(s) should be used. Pick another Subject Exit

9 RESPONSE TO APPROPRIATE INSTRUCTION YES Are the following Criteria met? NO 1.The student has access to the same curriculum provided to his peers at the same grade Level 2.IEP goals are based on Grade-level California Content Standards. 3.Special Education and related services provided to the student in the subject area. 4.Student will not achieve grade-level proficiency, even with instructional intervention. Exit

23 Peter S. Lindquist School Psychologist Yolo County Office of Education Peter is a School Psychologist for the Yolo County Office of Education. He was awarded his Masters Degree in School Psychology at Alliant International University. At Humboldt State University he Majored in Child Development, with a Minor in Psychology. Currently married for 5 years, he and his wife have two boys, a dog, and a cat. They have lived in Woodland for almost 2 years. He enjoys camping, reading, music, gardening, handiwork, working with computers and of course, children. He is an active member of the community as a Scoutmaster for a local Boy Scout Troop. Exit
