WHO IS CONCERNED PUPILS get (а) Meeting curiosity; (b) Сommunicating; (c) Overcoming challenges; (d) Aesthetic feelings ALMOST NOT benefits for scientific results GOOD SCHOOLS; INSTITUTIONS FOR SUPPLEMENTARY EDUCATION get Higher level of education  Attract smart pupils ACADEMIC AND TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS get Workforce Prospective students ARRANGEMENT Schools: send pupils to institutions invite scientists to school; employ teachers with scientific background Institutions: organize studying groups and teach pupils out of school hours Suppl. Education: organize studying groups (usually leaded with a scientist); provide summer schools (inviting scientists) pupils/year Basing predominantly on personal contacts! (teachers with scientific background know scientists personally) FUNDING: Usually by educational authorities (for extracurricular activity) OUTDOOR EXPEDITION = “THE HOOK” However, lab or computer work is also appropriate (for 1-2 pupils) 1-2 pupils could be guided by a scientists Large groups should be guided by teachers in favor of a task, given by scientists  the teacher should have an insight WHAT IS THE PUPILS INTEREST Socializing (most important): “The luxury of communications” “Cordiality” (role of personal interactions!!!) Challenging living and working conditions (!) Outdoor activity Tasks: Interesting and fitting qualification With practical or understandable outcome Effective for teachers rather than for students Pupils conferences (for ex. vernadsky.info) Pupils competitions and awards Publications in issues for pupils works Scientific publications (seeeeldom) ENCOURAGEMENTS WHAT CAN PUPILS DO “Dig” Collect data or samples Input data and treat them in a routine way Write programs Interpret data (if high qualified) NEVER: trust pupils to make preparations (for example, solutions for titration) NEVER: leave pupils’ work without immediate checking FROM LEARNING TO SCIENCE Give scientific outcome (10-20 a year) Present reasonable results ~10 2 a year Take part in scientific “digging” ~10 3 a year Present results at pupils conferences ~10 4 a year Take part in learning “digging” (solving learning tasks) ~10 5 a year Became scientists (1:1000) Were involved TopicPupils’ roleOrganization Open Geoscience Database Program writing School #192, Msc Nest accounting (Solovetsky isls.)
