September 12 - 18, 2010 “If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.” (Ezekiel 33:6, New International Version) Weekly World Watch Andy Walton’s To skip the introductory slides and go straight to this weeks developments click here.

What is a Weekly World Watch? Israel: The continuing conflict in the Middle East and focus on Jerusalem. Europe: Its developing union, both political and religious. Russia: Its return to anti-Western ways as Bible prophecy’s “king of the north.” The UK and the US: Bible prophecy’s “king of the south.” Moral standards in decline and violence on the increase. WWW presentations in PowerPoint can be ordered as audio/visual CDs by clicking here. Move your mouse to place the cursor on the blue link and click.clicking here The idea is simple. It is to look at current events and compare them to events spoken of in the Bible.. I hope to build up a picture of God’s hand working in the affairs of this world. God is bringing about a day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle. At that time God will send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, back to this earth. Jesus will then establish God’s kingdom on earth. This kingdom will last for ever. This is our hope and the reason we watch. Increasing natural disasters: including earthquake, famine etc The following six themes will appear repeatedly in WWW:

HEADLINE EVENT COMMENT News Photo The source of the headline and the date are included. Each WWW looks at a few key developments that have happened during the past week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Biblical point of view. What is in a Weekly World Watch? BIBLE QUOTE This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context. Unless stated otherwise, all quotes are from the King James Version. (Book, chapter, and verse) This is straight from a news report that caught my eye because it looked significant from a Biblical perspective, usually that of prophecy. Every WWW event slide has the following format. To reveal each block of text just left click your mouse or press the space bar. You control when it appears. This is the reporter’s description of the event. It is always a direct quotation from the news report and reflects the understanding of the reporter and editors. This is my comment on why the event is interesting to a Bible student. The intention of the WWW is to offer brief Biblical perspectives without going into detail. If more detail is desired, please e-mail me: (andy@weeklyworldwatch.co.uk).

Pope welcomed to Britain by Queen Freedom of religion is at the heart of British society, the Queen said as she welcomed Pope Benedict XVI to Britain. Meeting the Pope for the first time at Holyroodhouse Palace, her official residence in Scotland, she praised the contribution of Christianity to world development. The Queen also praised the contribution of the Roman Catholic Church in helping the poor, educating the young and bringing about peace in Ireland. Daily Telegraph, September 16, 2010 EVENT COMMENT Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. Britain (an isle afar off) did “Hear the word of the LORD”. The Truth WAS declared. BIBLE QUOTE (Jeremiah 31:10) To understand the significance of this first state visit ever by a Pope we must first understand some history. From 500AD to 1500AD in medieval Europe (including the UK) there was only one church – the Catholic Church. The “church” reigned supreme and exercised enormous control over people. It taught that forgiveness could be purchased by giving money “indulgences” to the “church”. The only Bible was in Latin so people were kept in the dark. In fact these were known as the “Dark Ages”. But one man translated the Latin into English. His name was Wycliffe. Later Tyndale translated the Bible from the original Hebrew and Greek into English. This was about 1525AD. He was condemned by the “church” as a heretic and strangled and burned. The Bibles produced were destroyed when found. But the “word of the LORD” was being heard for the first time. The authority of Rome was weakening. An epic struggle took place in Britain between the authority of the Bible and that of the Roman Church. King James in 1611 commissioned the “authorised” version of the Bible and the adoption of the Bible was complete. In 1689 a law was passed called the Bill of Rights. It reads “Every person who is or shall be reconciled to, or shall have communion with, the Church of Rome, shall be excluded and ever incapable to inherit, possess, or enjoy the Crown of these Realms”. By inviting the Pope as head of state the Queen has broken this oath.

We will not be silenced, Pope tells secular Britain The Pope strongly criticised the “marginalisation” of Christianity in modern Britain. Delivering the most important speech of his historic visit, he attacked the politically correct ideas that Christmas should not be celebrated for fear of offending minorities and that the faithful should be forced to keep their beliefs to themselves. Speaking in Westminster Hall before an audience including four former prime ministers, the Pope declared that politicians must not interfere with the running of Roman Catholic institutions, in what would be seen as a reference to those adoption agencies and faith schools that felt under attack from the previous government. Daily Telegraph, September 17, 2010 EVENT COMMENT after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot. …And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth. Click here to download a PDF (8mb) of why Tyre is London and when the 70 year period startsClick here BIBLE QUOTE The head of the Anglican church Dr Rowan Williams attended a joint ecumenical service with the Pope at Westminster Abbey. The Vatican see themselves as the “mother” church. The universal church. The word Catholic means “universal”. They see other Christian churches as wayward daughters that need to be brought back under her wings. The Pope’s ambition therefore is to become head of all Christian religion. Notice as well who was in the audience. Four former prime ministers. Lady Thatcher, John Major, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Revelation 17:2 says that the “kings of the earth” have committed fornication with the harlot woman of Rome. As they all sang together in London (latter day Tyre) we heard not joyful words but the singing of “an harlot”. This was prophesied in Isaiah 23. “Tyre shall sing as an harlot”. The singing which began in 1996/7 is reaching a crescendo. The judgement of latter day Tyre will soon come. The next chapter says “the noise of them that rejoice endeth…” Isaiah 24:8 (Isaiah 23:15+17)

The legal case against the Pope Benedict XVI’s touchdown in un-churchy Britain on Thursday is being met by a legal broadside from one of the country’s foremost human-rights lawyers spelling out how the 83-year-old leader of the Roman Catholic Church can be jailed, sued and stripped of the state over which he is absolute ruler. Globe & Mail, September 15, 2010 EVENT COMMENT And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, The Pope is addressed as “Lord God the Pope” BIBLE QUOTE (Matthew 23:9, 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4) The article in the Globe & Mail explains how the Pope is culpable because of the rape and molestation of children committed on a widespread and systematic scale. Heads of State who fail to punish perpetrators or who protect them from justice could bear “command responsibility” under international law the article explains. But what of God’s case against the Pope? Why is he singled out in the scriptures? Dealing with the last question first. He IS singled out in Daniel 7 – as the “little horn”. A “horn” is a ruler. This ruler comes out of the Roman Empire (the 4 th beast). He speaks great words against God. He changes “times and laws”. He is the “false prophet” of Revelation 16. He is the “man of sin” of 2 Thess 2:4 who exalts himself above God and pretends that he IS God! He is the head of the harlot system of Revelation 17 and is sat on 7 hills. Harlot = false religion. The 7 hills = Rome. God is against this man because of the following. He claims to be the “Holy Father”. He claims to be the supreme head of the “church”. He claims that all other “churches and governments” should be subject to him. He claims to be “infallible”. Under the guise of Christianity he says that Mary and dead saints can mediate for us. He promotes the worship of the cross and idols. He says priests can forgive sins. He has made war on the “saints”. It is estimated that the Catholic Church as been behind the deaths of over 50 million people over time because they would not be subject to “the Church”.

Russia to supply missiles to Syria despite Israel protests Russia still intends to go through with an arms deal with Syria including the sale of advance anti-ship rockets, despite recent attempts by Israeli and US officials to thwart the planned deal, Russian Defence Minster Anatoly Serdyukov said on Friday according to state news agency RIA Novosti. The deal includes the sale of advanced P-800 Yakhont supersonic cruise missiles to the Syrian military. Israel considers this weaponry capable of posing a significant threat to its navy vessels in the Mediterranean Sea. The Russian defense minister indicated that Russia would go ahead with the contract that was formulated in 2007, saying that "the matter of missile sales to Syria was raised during the talks with US Defence Secretary Robert Gates and undoubtedly, the Russian side of the contract would be fulfilled." Jerusalem Post, September 17, 2010 EVENT COMMENT So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the most fenced cities: This verse speaks of the ancient king of the north – “the Seleucids” And at the time of the end… and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, This verse speaks of the “new” king of the north – Gog (Russia) Russia continues to arm the enemies of Israel despite urgent pleas from Israel and America not to. Syria has long been an implacable foe of Israel. It is interesting therefore to contemplate why Syria is not mentioned in the great Gogian host that attacks Israel in Ezekiel 38. Some speculate that in fact Israel makes peace with Syria and this is why Syria is not mentioned. Others say that Syria is not mentioned because it has already been destroyed as a power. Syria was the territory of the ancient “king of the north”. For Russia to assume the mantle of the new “king of the north” it does make sense that the baton has (at some point) to be passed from one to the other. What we see here in effect is the up and coming king of the north arming the previous one. BIBLE QUOTE (Daniel 11:15) (Daniel 11:40)

US secures $60 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia The United States is selling $60 billion (£40 billion) worth of aircraft to Saudi Arabia in a huge deal that will increase unease about a gathering arms race in the Middle East. In what is the largest ever US arms sale of its kind, Riyadh has agreed to spend $30 billion up front on top range fighter jets and helicopters, with the rest following at an undisclosed date. The two countries are also discussing an upgrade naval package potentially worth $30 billion, but the timing of that deal is not clear. The deals are a coup for the Obama administration ahead of the midterm Congressional elections. The aircraft contracts are set to benefit defence manufacturers in 44 states and help to protect 77,000 jobs. Democratic candidates are expected to come under severe pressure in the elections in part because of the US's high unemployment rate. But the deal will raise concerns about the militarisation of the Gulf states and the Middle East which in part seems to be being driven by the Iranian nuclear situation. Daily Telegraph, September 13, 2010 EVENT COMMENT Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil? While Russia is busy arming the territory of the ancient king of the north we also have America busy arming the territory of the king of the south! Saudi Arabia is mentioned in Ezekiel 38. Not as one of the nations invading Israel with Russia BUT as an opposing nation to Russia. This is quite remarkable as it is not what you might expect without the Bible as your guide. We might imagine that as an Arab nation Saudi Arabia would side with Russia. But no. Saudi Arabia is the ancient nation of Sheba. Sheba is where Tarshish (Britain) and the young lions (eg America) are based. We see this situation developing exactly as prophesied over 2500 years ago. It is coming to pass before our eyes. BIBLE QUOTE (Ezekiel 38:13)

Resumption of direct talks renews hope for peace The recent resumption of direct Israeli-Palestinian talks has brought new hope for achieving a lasting peace in the Middle East, the United Nations envoy to the region said today, calling on the leaders of the two sides to stay the course until an agreement is reached. After months of proximity talks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, came together earlier this month in Washington D.C. under the auspices of the United States to launch direct negotiations. The Israeli and Palestinian leaders conducted a second round of talks on 14 September in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, and on 15 September in Jerusalem. “We are at a moment of renewed hope in the search for peace in the Middle East,” Robert Serry, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, said in his briefing to the Security Council. UN News Centre, September 17, 2010 EVENT COMMENT For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. BIBLE QUOTE (1 Thessalonians 5:3-4) This was the report on the United Nations official news site. Notice how positive they are about peace. “Renewed hope in the search of peace”. But it is not only the Israeli – Palestinian peace process that is being discussed. On Thursday US special envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell met with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus and stressed the United States' commitment to achieving a peace agreement between Israel and Syria. "Our effort to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in no way contradicts or conflicts with our goal of comprehensive peace including peace between Israel and Syria," he told reporters after meeting with Assad. And so the renewed hope for peace gathers pace. But so do the preparations for war noted on the previous slides. How long before the conflict begins? It cannot be long….
