© Spot Image P (l, c) P (x, y) Satellite position ? Satellite orientation (attitude) ? The Four Pilars for Mapping : an accurate geometry (photogrammetry)

© Spot Image The Four Pilars for Mapping : an accurate geometry Spot images (dimap) : both raw images and complete, precise metadata are provided : Position and velocity of the satellite provided by Doris system (accuracy < 1 m) every 10 s Attitude angles (roll, pitch, yaw) every seconde and Attitude changes every 0,12 secondes with the star tracker (accuracy < radian)

© Spot Image The Four Pilars for Mapping : an accurate geometry  Internal Orientation of each detector of each band inside the sensor : 24,000 values (color image)

© Spot Image The Four Pilars for Mapping : an accurate geometry  Real rigorous photogrammetric modelling is possible with Spot images  well known modelling on the market and available in many commercial processing software BUT few are using most of existing metadata (like Photomod for instance…)  The SPOT 5 absolute accuracy (with no map, no Ground Control Points) using only on-board data : - single scene : 50 m RMS (model accuracy) - block of scenes : 12 RMS (model accuracy)  With convenient GCPs and DEM : accuracy better than the pixel size (2,5 m)

© Spot Image GCPs Tie points Block = segment A + segment B + segment C Seg. A Seg. B Seg. C GCPs from maps or GPS Advantage of Space-Triangulation Country C Country A Country B No map available No ground survey possible The images over the country B are perfectly corrected

© Spot Image Mapping products  SPOT5 : topographic mapping at scales 1: and 1:  Kompsat : 1:25000 to 1:10000  Partnership between Spot Image and the French Mapping Agency (IGN) for cartographic purposes. Our Analysis : the line mapping market is mature enough : - hardware/software : pricesefficiency - satellite images : ratio area/resolution/accuracy  updating pricespeed Map updating need is huge !

© Spot Image HRS products : network of GCPs over huge areas Extract to locate the GCP The GCP Coordinates of the GCP It is possible to order not the images themselves but only location and coordinates of some Reference points for many applications (images registration, targeting and defense applications,…) over huge areas. Accuracy of the points all other the world : 12 m RMS. Advantages : - GCPs ready to use => easy ! - no need to buy the images or to go on the field  cheaper and faster ! - the network can cover very large area => faster.

© Spot Image An operational example : updating of a serbian map  Ortho-correction of the SPOT5 THX image with an accuracy fully compatible with the required scale (very good superimposition between Spot-image and serbian Maps) ;  Scanning of the serbian map master planes using a A0 format and high resolution scanner (1200 dpi) ;  Two IGN operators updated the whole map (3280 new buildings + changes in the road network)  Duration of the updating for one sheet : - the updating of the whole 1: serbian map by well trained operators : two weeks ! => very rapid !  As in a traditional process, some field survey is required to solve some photo-interpretation problems or to collect additional information (place names, boundaries,…).

© Spot Image Cadastre : interest of Spot data for a cadastral project A Spot 5 coverage of the area allows : - To ensure a complete view of the area, for navigation and field trip monitoring - To classify the area between “rural” area (2) and dense area (4) => dense area : acquisition locally of a higher resolution (Kompsat2) => “rural” area : some information can be directly extracted from the Spot image

© Spot Image Accuracy : Cadastral map, Sremcica area  Serbia : a metric cadastre, 20 years old  Test with IGN and SISA to superimpose it with ortho-corrected Spot5 2,5 m color image  Very good accuracy  Change detection

© Spot Image The French Large Scale Referential (National data base)  Topography (1:10,000 to 1:25,000) BD TOPO®  Cadastre (both raster and vector) BD PARCELLAIRE® Ortho-images BD ORTHO® Georeferenced adresses BD ADRESSE®

© Spot Image The Pilot Project over Tarusa  To do a kind of Large Scale Referential over Tarusa area at different scales : - 1:200,000 : using low resolution Spot images - 1:25,000 : using 2,5 m Spot5 image - 1:10,000 : using Ikonos or Quickbird (or kompsat) images - 1:2,000 : using aerial photos
