2 2 Federal Aviation Administration Non – Destructive Airport Pavement Testing April 25, NDT Presentation Outline Airport Pavement Roughness – to be presented by Dr. Hayhoe following NDT Nondestructive Airport Pavement Testing Survey Vehicle High Tire Pressure Grooving and Trafficking Improvements to BAKFAA Heavy Weight Deflectometer Roundup Update to Follow this Presentation

3 3 Federal Aviation Administration Non – Destructive Airport Pavement Testing April 25, Proposed Use of the FAA NDT Survey Vehicle ● The van is being used as a non-destructive pavement testing platform for airport pavement, ● The van is to be used in part to assess new and existing non-destructive airport pavement testing technology and software, ● The van will also be used to acquire non-destructive airport pavement testing data at international and general aviation airports for use at NAPTF and by NAPTF and contractor personnel.

4 4 Federal Aviation Administration Non – Destructive Airport Pavement Testing April 25, Status of the NDT Van After final outfitting, the van will have pavement imaging, Ground Penetrating Radar, GPS, and laser profiling capabilities. The vehicle was purchased in 2009 and delivered in June The NDT van was delivered in September The vehicle has completed interior modifications locally and imaging equipment has been used to assess CC-6.

10 10 Federal Aviation Administration Non – Destructive Airport Pavement Testing April 25, 2012 Grooving and Trafficking High Tire Pressure (HTP) Area Construct transverse rectangular and trapezoidal grooves in the HTP area. Both types of grooves will constructed in heated and unheated sections of the HTP. Profile before and after grooving. Continue to profile at frequent intervals during trafficking. Groove deviations will be monitored by Selcom laser profiles and physical measurement using tape measure and depth gage. 10
