2 24 th CCE workshop& 30 th TF M&M, Rome, 7-10 April Call for Data results Final goal: Derive a harmonized metric from these submitted variables and indicators with the objective to quantify “no net loss of biodiversity” on a regional scale. … then normalized by the CCE to express “no net loss of biodiversity” (NNLB) for each EUNIS class in a country.

3 24 th CCE workshop& 30 th TF M&M, Rome, 7-10 April 2014 From dynamic modelling for sites to regional applicable functions Index reflecting no net loss of biodiversity N deposition EUNIS class Lv 3? (G1.6)

20 24 th CCE workshop& 30 th TF M&M, Rome, 7-10 April 2014 If countries select a biodiversity index for their sites, they should also select their limit. How to compare in case of large bordering differences?

24 24 th CCE workshop& 30 th TF M&M, Rome, 7-10 April Many cells with EcoArea > grid cell size - 0 to 4 EUNIS codes per entry

25 24 th CCE workshop& 30 th TF M&M, Rome, 7-10 April 2014 Conclusions -9 countries participated in the call for data -7 did Dynamic Modelling for sites -No obvious relation between nitrogen deposition and biodiversity indices using vegetation modelling so far

26 24 th CCE workshop& 30 th TF M&M, Rome, 7-10 April 2014 Recommendations (and/or part of the training session issues -We need to apply indices based on species occurrence probabilities in stead of abundance… or model abundances -“preferential” or “typical” species need to be selected by NFCs (vegetation units now in props…) -NFC calculation(steps) should ultimately focus on a regional scale (compare eg. Targetloads) -Please, mind the tables, naming and units in the call!! -We should return to annual responses -We should have an intermediate milestone with a 2 years call
