Each of the levels is examined thoroughly in terms of content, aims and assessment methodology to give a detailed understanding of the internal coherence of the qualifications. 5

6 Threshold or intermediate Vantage or upper intermediate
Anglia CEFR-B Align to the CEFR / what a learner is supposed to be able to do in reading, listening, speaking and writing at each level. level B1 B2 level name Threshold or intermediate Vantage or upper intermediate description Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. 6

General Information Language tested: English. Examining institution: Ascentis Anglia Type of examination: International. Purpose: To certify candidates ability in English to a internationally recognized standard. Target population: predominantly upper/lower secondary also university students, college students and adults. Overall Aim To enable the student to demonstrate that he/she has a good active vocabulary and structural understanding. 7

8 Anglia CEFR-B1 (Intermediate)
Specific objectives At this level the student can successfully: Write clear connected text on descriptive, narrative or imaginary topics Read and understand texts from both concrete or abstract topics Distinguish between and use a variety of tenses: past, present and future Ask and answer questions about past or present or future events 8

9 Anglia CEFR-B1 (Intermediate)
Specific objectives At this level the student can successfully: Express basic intention, purpose, obligation, preference, advice, agreement and disagreement process and hypothesis including regret and consequence Repeat messages, pass on information, check facts. 9

Communicative activities are tested Within the listening examination: Listening comprehension Integrated skills Language usage Within the reading and writing examination: Reading comprehension Written interaction 10

General Information Language tested: English. Examining institution: Ascentis Anglia Type of examination: International. Purpose: To certify candidates ability in English to a internationally recognized standard. Target population: Predominantly upper/lower secondary, also university students, college students and adults. Overall Aim To enable the student to demonstrate that he/she has a good active vocabulary and structural understanding 12

Specific objectives At this level the student can successfully: Write clear connected text on descriptive, narrative, imaginary or discursive topics Write letters, both formal and informal Understand and respond to the main points of a text on any topic, concrete or abstract Use language to perform any function likely to arise in a normal social or learning context 13

Specific objectives At this level the student can successfully: Manipulate structures to create emphasis, and vary style and idiom Listen and respond to passages and questions in a variety of forms, delivered at a measured speaking pace 14

17 Anglia CEFR-C (Proficient User)
Align to the CEFR / what a learner is supposed to be able to do in reading, listening, speaking and writing at each level. level C1 C2 level name Effective Operational Proficiency or advanced Mastery or proficiency description Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning. Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can summarize information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices. 17

General Information Language tested: English. Examining institution: Ascentis Anglia Type of examination: International. Purpose: To certify candidates ability in English to a internationally recognized standard. Target population: Upper secondary, university students, college students and adults 18

Overall Aim To enable the student to demonstrate that he/she has a very good active vocabulary and structural understanding in English, and can therefore undertake a course of study in the context of this language in further or higher education. 19

Specific objectives At this level the student can successfully: Write clear, organized text on descriptive, narrative, or discursive topics, including giving opinion and explaining the advantages and disadvantages of a given issue Write letters, both formal and informal Read and respond to a longer text on any topic, concrete or abstract Provide an accurate summary of a text 20

Specific objectives At this level the student can successfully: Use language to perform any function likely to arise in a normal social or learning context Manipulate structures to create emphasis, and vary style and idiom Listen and respond accurately to passages and questions in a variety of forms and contexts, delivered at a normal speaking pace 21

Specific objectives At this level the student can successfully: Take notes while listening to information given at normal speaking pace and then use those notes for a targeted task. Take notes from a long text on any topic and use those notes to argue a case in clear, organized written text. Show understanding of a variety of texts in both a detailed and global way. Understand and produce language in a variety of styles and idioms. 26
