COPY THE WORDS FIRST AND LEAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE PICTURES AFTERWARDS. SET YOUR WORK OUT LIKE THIS… UN GATO A CAT WHEN YOU HAVE DONE ALL 12 PETS, GET YOUR TEACHER TO CHECK YOUR SPELLINGS, THEN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

TO ASK SOMEONE “DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS?” IN SPANISH, THIS IS WHAT YOU SAY… “¿TIENES UN ANIMAL?” WRITE THIS TITLE IN YOUR BOOK …. “TALKING ABOUT MY PETS” WRITE “¿TIENES UN ANIMAL?” = “DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS?” IN YOUR BOOK THE NEXT SLIDES WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION IN SPANISH.

TO ANSWER SOMEONE “DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS?” IN SPANISH, THIS IS WHAT YOU SAY… TENGO….. = I HAVE….. FOLLOWED BY THE WORD FOR YOUR PET. FOR EXAMPLE…. TENGO UN GATO = I HAVE A CAT TENGO UN GATO Y UN CONEJO = I HAVE A DOG AND A RABBIT IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY PETS, THIS IS WHAT YOU SAY… NO TENGO UNIMALES = I DON’T HAVE ANY PETS COPY THESE EXAMPLES INTO YOUR EXERCISE BOOKS

HOW TO SAY IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE TYPE OF PET – “PLURALS” MORE THAN ONE OF SOMETHING IS KNOWN AS A “PLURAL”. IN ENGLISH, TO MAKE SOMETHING PLURAL, WE ADD AN “S” TO THE WORD FOR EXAMPLE, 2 CATS, 4 DOGS, SOME RABBITS ETC. THERE ARE SOME EXCEPTIONS OF COURSE… EG, A SHEEP, 2 SHEEP. 1 MOUSE, SOME MICE. PLURALS ARE VERY SIMILAR IN SPANISH… TO MAKE SOMETHING PLURAL YOU ADD AN “S” DOS GATOS TRES CONEJOS UNOS PERROS (= SOME DOGS) AS IN ENGLISH, THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE. THE NEXT SLIDE SHOWS SOME EXAMPLES…

SOME DIFFERENT PLURALS IN SPANISH UN PEZ- (ONE FISH) DOS PECES (TWO FISH) UN RATÓN DOS RATONES (IF THE WORD ENDS IN A CONSONANT, ADD -S)

COPY THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLES INTO YOUR BOOKS TENGO DOS GATOS= I HAVE TWO CATS TENGO TRES CONEJOS = I HAVE THREE RABBITS TENGO UNOS PECES = I HAVE SOME FISH TENGO DOS PÁJAROS = I HAVE TWO BIRDS TENGO DOS CABALLOS= I HAVE TWO HORSES TENGO DOS RATONES = I HAVE TWO MICE NOW WRITE IN SPANISH A SENTENCE SAYING WHAT PETS YOU HAVE. NOW HAVE A GO AT THE EXERCISES ON THE NEXT SLIDES TO PRACTISE THESE PHRASES…

WRITE A SENTENCE IN SPANISH BASED ON EACH PICTURE. SET YOUR WORK OUT LIKE THE EXAMPLE. Example x2 Tengo dos perros 1. x4 x x1 + x4 x some x2 some x5 x1x some

Un gato Un ratón = A cat = A mouse Did you notice anything different about the Spanish word for “a” with these pets? That’s right, one says “un”, the other says “una”. They both mean “a” so why are they different? In Spanish all nouns (person, place or things) are known as either Masculine or Feminine. Read the next slide carefully as it will explain more keywords Some extra information to read. Make notes in your books if you like.

Every NOUN in Spanish is either Masculine or Feminine A noun is a person, place or thing. Any word that you can put the word “a” or “the” in front. In Spanish, the words for “a” and “the” are different, depending on if the word is masculine or feminine. ENGLISHMASCULINE FEMININE THE EL LA AUN UNA REMEMBER: It is the “word” itself which is either masculine or feminine. You might own a female cat, but the word for “cat” in Spanish will always be masculine. How do you know if a word is masculine or feminine? You have to learn them!! When you learn a new noun in Spanish you will always learn it with the extra words “UN”, “UNA”, “EL” or “LA”. Just like you did with the words for pets. READ THIS SLIDE VERY CAREFULLY
