UBC Joint Commission meeting 11th April 2013 Tallinn Dorota Gajda WP 1 Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan

G1.1 Advancing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan Update and elaborate of SUMP on basis of existing key urban and transport planning documents Get acceptance of stakeholders and approval by City Council for SUMP Hold discussion and involve inhabitants, stakeholders, policy-makers in active debate on sustainable urban transport issues Promote SUMP process as a best practice case for other cities in Poland UBC Joint Commission meeting 11th April 2013 Tallinn Dorota Gajda SUMPClean vehiclesICT & ITS (Fot. 9 G1.2 Community project studies from SUMP Some measure within SUMP will be implemented – pilot projects and some will be limited to simulation and studies (using transport model). We will conduct 3 studies: Prepare the PRT study of line connecting Gdynia’s main railway station with Molo Rybackie (port area) Launch a cycling promotion campaign and revise the cycling network and policy concept Prepare concept for the study on road traffic modifications and PT lines distribution We will disseminate and discuss studies on the internet Mobility 2.0 platform UBC Joint Commission meeting 11th April 2013 Tallinn Dorota Gajda SUMPClean vehiclesICT & ITS

G1.3 Pedestrian areas and access management Analyse and design closure of roads in Gdynia (consult traffic reorganization with inhabitants and stakeholders) Implement the pedestrian area – pilot project –Increase of attractiveness of the city centre and satisfaction of citizens –Decrease traffic by 10% and promote walking in the city centre UBC Joint Commission meeting 11th April 2013 Tallinn Dorota Gajda SUMPClean vehiclesICT & ITS Photo by P. 11 UBC Joint Commission meeting 11th April 2013 Tallinn Dorota Gajda WP 2 Innovative, clean and energy efficient vehicles

G2.1 Innovative Li-Ion hybrid trolleybuses on new line Analyse possible locations for trolleybus line extension in hybrid trolleybuses with batteries NOT wired infrastructure Expand the operation of electric public transport vehicles Converse two buses to innovative hybrid trolleybuses and deploy them on a new line without wires –Reduce energy consumption by up to 3% as a result of reduced weight of trolleybus –Increase of passenger space and capacity through reduced battery sizes Continue the European Trolleybus Day Launch an education campaign on electromobility UBC Joint Commission meeting 11th April 2013 Tallinn Dorota Gajda SUMPClean vehiclesICT & ITS Photo by K. Romański

G2.2 Supercaps for more efficient trolley system Install a supercap bank along trolleybus traction at chosen trolleybus substation –Reduce energy power demand of the trolleybus system by 20% compared to current monthly demand –Improve the energy efficiency of trolleybuses by recuperation of energy from breaking Set a national and European showcase for innovative technology in public transport operation UBC Joint Commission meeting 11th April 2013 Tallinn Dorota Gajda SUMPClean vehiclesICT & ITS Photo by M. 14 UBC Joint Commission meeting 11th April 2013 Tallinn Dorota Gajda WP 3 ICT and ITS

G3.1 Traffic model to expand Gdynia’s SUMP Elaborate of a 3-level transport model based on the complex traffic research Accomplish detailed analyses and verify effects on mobility management started by SUMP proposals and measures Propose infrastructure improvements to increase the attractiveness of alternative modes of transport UBC Joint Commission meeting 11th April 2013 Tallinn Dorota Gajda SUMPClean vehiclesICT & ITS vision-traffic.ptvgroup.com

G3.2 Automatic traffic incident detection Elaborate effective method of traffic incident detection at intersections Install pilot traffic incident detection system at two the most dangerous locations in Gdynia –Shorten the time of road accident detection by 50% –Shorten the time of the rescue operation by 20% –Decrease of number of fatalities in road accidents by 20% –Improve traffic conditions due to shortening the time of rescue operation UBC Joint Commission meeting 11th April 2013 Tallinn Dorota Gajda SUMPClean vehiclesICT & ITS Source:

G3.3 Weigh-in-motion and Enforcement Prepare feasibility study for access restriction of heavy and overloaded vehicles Introduce a pilot weight-in-motion system at two entry points of the city –Decrease of road maintenance costs due to overweight trucks on controlled roads by 15% –Reduce the number of overweight trucks on city roads by 90% on controlled roads –Reduce noise and air pollution –Increase road safety Organize awareness-raising campaign for local community and truck drivers UBC Joint Commission meeting 11th April 2013 Tallinn Dorota Gajda SUMPClean vehiclesICT & ITS Photo by H.
