4 4 AHU CONNECTION TO ERQ & VRV IV

5 A common AHU installation layout can be seen below. To be able to connect an AHU to a VRV system, 2 additional kits are required: - EKEXV kit: a kit that contains the expansion valve (there is no expansion valve in the AHU) - EKEQ box: a box that contains a PCB, to make it possible to control the AHU APPLICATION EKEQ box EKEXV kit Air Handling Unit (AHU)

6 Offer the most extensive and accurate type of control for DX ventilation applications with AHUs. TARGET  Extend the range of expansion valve kits (EKEXV), with two new models; 400 & 500 class:  Less installation cost due to savings on installation time (e.g. 1 kit instead of 2 with the same capacity.  Most extensive range of expansion valve kits in the market.  Increase the possible AHU that can be connected to a VRV system (16HP and 20HP).  Create new / additional type of control (0-10V) for the existing EKEQFCB box.  Easy to program.  Use of-the-self DDC controllers. 9 D EVELOPMENTS W-control / Νew 0-10V control W control has basically 5 steps. Depending on the voltage from the DDC, a certain capacity step will be chosen. The system responds by setting and fixing the Te and Tc depending on cooling and heating operation. For cooling operation (for heating operation the logic is the same):  the DDC outputs a voltage signal and a certain step is selected via the control box  the Te value is fixed e.g. at 8.5 ο C (relating to 80% capacity)  the unit will operate and control to reach this Te value  if the load is increasing, more heat will be extracted from the evaporator. This will result in a SH (superheat value) that will increase. The system will respond to this by opening the expansion valve. The frequency of the inverter compressor will also increase, which will increase the mass flow and therefore the capacity. => even by having the same Te setting, the capacity can vary (increase or decrease). The capacity steps that are mentioned (0%, 40%; 60%, 80%, 100%) are therefore not fixed. A broad capacity range is therefore available for every capacity step.

10 D EVELOPMENTS W-control / Νew 0-10V control COMPETITION (MELCO) Mitsubishi specifies that they fix compressor frequency. If they do not adjust the Te/Tc values, this means they cannot regulate capacity (or not substantially) and are limited to the available steps that they have.

As a result their system will continuously hunt around the requested set point. 2.The difference in discharge temperature in case of our control can be maximum 1,4K and this inside the AHU. 18 In the urban centers of Europe, there are drawbacks from the outdoor unit installation location by means of aesthetics, operating noise (with regulations in city areas) etc. Normally, the units are installed on the roof with blindfold fence, soundproof wall in such a case. In some markets, outdoor units are also installed at the inner part of the building in case there is a courtyard, but still additional countermeasures to reduce sound levels have to be taken, again negatively influencing installation cost and efficiency. Mini VRV is also installed in high end residential applications, where the outdoor unit has to have a height of lower than 1m, in order to be possible to hide it behind a parapet. BACKGROUND
