Saskatchewan WCB considers Youth Injury to be between the ages of 14 and 24, even though manufacturing operations are not allowed by OHS to employ 14 & 15 year olds The following slides represent how the manufacturing industry compares to the other top four industries in youth workplace injuries

As indicated in the graphs that follow, the retail sector has the highest number of injuries in their top five employers, followed by the manufacturing sector

It is interesting to note that M91 rate code employers are experiencing a higher number of youth injuries than other manufacturing employers

There is a positive trend in all four industries, in that there is a decrease in the overall number of injuries There is a more than 50% decrease for the first place M91 company from 2008 to 2009

It is interesting to note that in the manufacturing sector, one “top five” employer came off the 2008 to be replace with an M91 employer in 2009

Even though the “top five” employers in 2009 are all from the M91 rate code, the injuries totaled 92 in the five companies in 2009, which is far less then the 146 injuries experienced by the only four M91 companies in 2008

The previous chart shows the number of injuries experienced in the M91 rate code for the following years: 2007 – 107 injuries (6.98% of all mfg injuries) injuries (8.06% of all mfg injuries) injuries (5.94% of all mfg injuries)

This chart displays that the majority of injuries experienced by young workers in M91 were to hands, eyes and backs
