2 Elias Wingate Financier Description: The President of Far Yukon Mining Corporation, Elias Wingate is a widower in his mid 50’s. He has run his company on very tight purse strings over the years, only recently finally acquiescing to his daughter’s demands of ending Far Yukon’s unscrupulous indentured servitude policy. To offset the decreased profit margin, Elias is now funding a salvage/transport operation headed by Mercedes Wingate. While he does love his daughter, they are frequently on opposite sides of many issues. He views this business of hers as Ni Nio Ruh Hai, but he still went ahead and financed it – and added some provisions to the deal that Mercedes didn’t agree to. He’s chummy and chatty – the kind of guy you either like or get really irritated by. He has a past with Mercedes, but they seem to have put that behind them and are ready to enter into a business arrangement. 4 Obidiah “Sully” Sullivan Scrap Yard Owner Description: Sully is a kind old coot, but his love of drink and his tendency to let others take advantage of him get him into trouble. He grew up on Boros and was always something of a tinkerer. He bought his scrap-yard many years before the war, and business was steady, but his lack of business sense meant that he wasn’t able to make as big a profit as he should have. Sully is Ally’s great uncle, and raised her when her folks were killed seven years ago. 5 Olivia Wilde Saloon Proprietor Description: Daughter of a ranch family and war widow of an Independent soldier, Olivia is now starting to find her own way in life on Hera. She sold her land to Far Yukon Corporation, then promptly risked her fortunes on a card game that saw her win ownership of the Ace in the Hold Saloon. Of course, she unwittingly inherited a debt and a place that had been stripped of inventory and help. 6 Jacob Walton Labor Representative Description: Jacob is a handsome, well-spoken man in his late 20’s. He has always been fond of Mercedes, but always seems to find himself on Elias’ side of any arguments. 7 Rick “King” Gray Faro Dealer / Pilot Description: King is strong and muscular, and considers himself to be the brains of any operation. His pride and joy is his huge handlebar mustache that he is constantly waxing and admiring, using a handmirror that he carries in a leather case in his pocket. He’s a snappy dresser with an eye for the ladies. King got his name from his love of cards, particularly Faro. He met up with Todd and Ace in the army, and has helped in their scrounging operations. 8 Ace Johnson Muscle / Pilot Description: Ace is in his 30’s. He’s a tall, muscular man with a buzz haircut, broken nose, and a permanent scowl. He doesn’t talk over-much, and when he does, he grunts or mumbles. Only his friend King understands what he’s saying and serves as his translator if Ace has anything important to contribute (which is mostly never). Ace made it through the army because his buddy King took care of him. Ace is good at taking orders, which he obeys with alacrity, no matter who’s giving them. He is a good bodyguard, but has an unfortunate tendency to get into fights, because those who don’t know him mistake his shyness for arrogance. Ace is terrified of women and will blush up to his ears and go dumb if one speaks at him. He admires King and looks up to him, and will do anything King asks of him. 9 Sophie Deacon “Deke” “Hacker” Description: Deke is Zak’s best friend from Osiris. She was the head of the class and a good athlete, but her favorite pastime was computer hacking. Blue Sun hired her to work on one of their many secretive projects, and Deke’s curiosity quickly got the better of her. Before long, she was hacking into project files. She quit before she was discovered (unlike Zak), and started her computer repair business, Foxtech. Deke is 5’8”, athletic, and changes her hairstyle frequently, ranging from a wild Afro to short and straight. She loves Core World Team Handball, and had aspirations of turning pro before a knee injury ending her playing days. She dresses casually during the day, then to the nines to go to her favorite nightspot, Off World, for dancing and drinks. 10 Sam Wu “SamWu” “Thief Description: Sam worked for Blue Sun before Deke and Zak got there. He saw a corporation that made credits hand over fist, and was determined to find a way to make more than his entry level salary. He was something of a petty thief and was pretty good at it. Before long, his day job wasn’t paying nearly as much as his night job, so he quit Blue Sun. A chance meeting with Deke and Zak grew into a friendship that centered around cracking code and making money. They gave him a bit of a conscience, too, and SamWu became more selective about who he stole from and started helping those who needed it. He now works with Deke at Foxtech, and also frequents Off World. He is tall, athletic, and normally has a day or two old beard, probably because he doesn’t sleep much (too many Sun Colas). 11 Louise Boyd “Saloon Singer” Description: A tall, curvy woman, Louise is quite breathtaking. She has long, shimmering black hair, with a stunning physique and piercing blue/gray eyes that look right through you as she sings. Her life has been dedicated to her singing career, but despite her charm and talent, true success has eluded her. She stays on the move a lot and keeps to the Rim for reasons she refuses to share, but she manages to make a decent living. 12 Baron Otello “ Well-Connected Core World Politician ” Description: A well-respected political figure on Osiris, the Baron’s public persona is that of a respectable ambassador. He is generous with his wealth, and hosts numerous fund raisers throughout the year to help various public causes. But he is also a well-connected underworld crime figure with connections on Osiris and beyond. Now in his early 50’s, the Baron typically sports a beard that is peppered with gray and dresses in nice suits, adorned with the obligatory sash that indicates his station. He has thrived in the Osiris underground, using a pawn shop business as his front. Jacks loves knife fighting, but he has lost his share, and sports a long scar on each side of his face. 18 Carl Busby “Buzz” “Chief Mechanic, Bachofen Docks, Hera” Description: Buzz is rough around the edges, a stout man in his late 50’s. His hair has been white for longer than he can remember, and Buzz is almost never without a cigarette, even though he’s well aware of the health and safety risks. He was a career military man, working as an airman/mechanic for the Alliance, and was stationed on Hera. But Buzz quickly came to find that the folk on the Border planets just wanted to have the right to leave as they pleased. So when the U-War broke out, he switched sides, and gave the Independents a master mechanic. After the war, he continued to work in Hera’s main shipyard. Among those he taught his trade was none other than Zak Grizzelle.
