Judgment Day To distinguish between individual and general judgment To explain with evidence how God will judge people To reflect on how this affects the way Christians live their life What will happen?
Every person is judged individually by God when they die: They immediately receive the reward or punishment of their deeds on earth (heaven/ hell/ purgatory) There will also be a general judgment of societies as a whole, as everyone together is responsible for some sins: – If you were born in a difficult time (war, famine, a time when religion was forbidden) this will be taken into account – If you helped to make society more sinful for others eg you supported abortion or helped make pornography more available/ acceptable – you will be judged on this. 1.Explain what the two kinds of judgement are. 2.Why should people be judged on how they changed society for good or ill? **Do you find it a comforting thought that God will take the conditions you grew up in, into consideration, when judging your sins?
What will you be judged on ? The judgment will embrace – all works, good or bad, – forgiven as well as unforgiven sins, – every idle word (Matthew 12:36), – every secret thought (1 Corinthians 4:5). – “Even the secret sins of the just will be made manifest”. This will not pain or shame the saints, since their sins only show God’s greater holiness and purity. Watch the movie 1.Write out and complete with examples what Jesus’ parable of the Sheep and Goats tells us about what we will be judged on. -When Jesus comes in glory to judge all the people, he will separate them into... and To the sheep, Jesus will says “Come and enter heaven, because when... -To the goats, Jesus will say, “Out with you into darkness and weeping, because when... 2.What does this parable tell you about how you should live your life, to be worthy of entering heaven? **Look at the list of what you will be judged on. Is it fair? What does it tell you about God?
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from His presence. The sea, death & the underworld gave up the dead that were in them. And I saw all the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. And books were opened, including the Book of Life. Each person was judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. Then death and the underworld was thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. 1. Draw the vision that the writer of Revelation describes. **How might this affect the way Christians live their lives ? The Judgment of the Dead (Rev 20:11)
Tips on how to be included in “the Book of Life”
Look up the quotes. Write out the sentences completing the gaps. Acts 17:31 Acts 17:31 Because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.” Matthew 13: “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea, and gathering fish of every kind; 48and when it was filled, they drew it up on the beach; and they sat down and gathered the good fish into containers, but the bad they threw away. 49“So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous, 50and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth Revelation 20:11-15Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Matthrew 25:31-36, “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ 46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” John 12:48 The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.John 12:48
