3 Aims of the Day To support colleagues in their understanding of national standards by:  reviewing the 1 st year of delivery  discussing this evidence and associated Assessment Standards with colleagues  asking questions and seeking clarification about Unit content, structure and assessment

4 N3,4,5 Art & Design Units Review of First Year of Implementation Expressive Process: Learn about artists Produce investigation studies Consider composition Refine a composition Produce a final artwork Design Process: Learn about designers Investigate the theme/brief Develop ideas Refine an idea Produce a design solution

12 Study the work of artists and designers: Learn about what influenced them Learn about materials and techniques Give facts and personal opinions To do this effectively, candidates would study: At least 2 artists/designers At least 2 works by each This would exceed minimum requirements for N3 and meet minimum requirements for N4 and N5 Unit exemplars: Approaches to Outcome 1

13 Centres can deliver this part of the Units, and candidates can produce their evidence, in whatever way they consider appropriate. Approaches to Outcome 1

15 Using the image as a central point around which comments are made. Often, specific headings are identified to help focus the research/comments. Approaches to Outcome 1 N5 A3

16 Approaches to Outcome 1 Gathering relevant images on a sheet and annotating. Comments can be facts, opinions – anything that relates to and is inspired by the research. N5 A3

17 Evidence can be produced entirely on computer. It does not have to be in hard-copy. Approaches to Outcome 1

18 Mind-maps can help in the structuring of information in the early stages of a Unit. Approaches to Outcome 1 N5 A3

19 Approaches to Outcome 1 There is no prescribed ‘word count’. The emphasis is on candidates meeting the Assessment Standards and in their learning. N5 A5/A3

20 Evidence can be presented by the candidate in any way – as long as it meets the Assessment Standards. Approaches to Outcome 1 N5 A4

21 Sketchbooks encourage candidates to further personalise their work. These can be used for Outcome 1, Outcome 2 or both. Approaches to Outcome 1 N5 A5

22 Approaches to Outcomes 1 & 2 Sketchbooks varied in size and content with many being hand-made.

23 Produce creative ideas: Select subject matter Use materials and techniques creatively Produce initial studies Develop some basic ideas Evaluate the ideas To do this effectively, candidates would produce: At least 3 expressive studies/equivalent design investigation At least 2 development ideas for each This would exceed minimum requirements for N3 and meet minimum requirements for N4 and N5 Unit exemplars: Approaches to Outcome 2
