GRINDLEFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL Solar Panel Competition Entry Friends of the Earth
THE SOLAR POWERED DEN We are a very ECO thinking and acting school, who would like to go that bit further and get solar panels for our school roof. Our ECO committee is made up of Jessica (Y6), Ella (Y6), Adam (Y3),Millie (Y4), Autumn (Y3),Ruby (Y4), Mrs Bacon, Miss Village and one of our PTA members and helpers Mrs Illingworth. The committee have been looking into all sorts of ways to make our school greener and solar panel energy is very high on our list of things to do, so we thought we would enter your competition. For this project, because Ruby was ill, we were also joined by Jesse (Y4) and Oscar (Y5).
The ECO committee went into an assembly and told the whole school about this competition, asking for ideas about what we could create as an entry. Morgan (Y6) said ‘stained glass windows’ Wilf (Y1) said ‘build a den’ Alfie (Y5) said ‘Make solar panels’ Lots of other children said to create sculptures of the sun or the school building, using recycled materials and our Forest School skills. The ECO committee thought all of these ideas were good and decided to mix them together. WHAT TO DO?
THE DEN We had to make a freestanding den which was harder than usual because we always lean them on trees when we make them.
THE SOLAR PANELS These pictures are of the Eco committee making the solar panels to go on the den. We had to tie the frames together and sometimes trim the sticks. We made the middle out of recycled plastic bags. And the pictures are meant to be of the hills with the sun shining on them.
THE FINISHED DEN This den took us about 3 and a half hours but every second was really fun. The den was made by: Jesse, Oscar, Adam and Autumn. And the solar panels were made by: Ella, Jessica and Millie.
THANK YOU! Thank you for watching our presentation ! We had lots of fun and look forward to doing more Eco things. Written by Ella and Jess (Y6).
