Days of the Week Los Días de la Semana Song Los Días de la Semana Song lunes martes miércoles jueves viernes sábado domingo

Months of the Year Los Meses del Año enero febrero marzo abril mayo junio julio agosto septiembre octubre noviembre diciembre

The Spanish “j” (jota)  How do you pronounce the months June and July in Spanish?  The Spanish "j" is pronounced like the "h" in the word "hot," except that it is "raspier.“  Practice saying these words: junio julio jugar jardín jefe jamón

Ways to Remember the Months…  ABRIL—the “p” in April just flips to a “b”  MARZO—the “ch” just changes to a “zo”  MAYO—just add an “o”  JUNIO & JULIO—have their same first 3 letters then add “io”  SEPTEMBER—SEPTIEMBRE  NOVEMBER—NOVIEMBRE  DECEMBER—DICIEMBRE  “EMBER”=IEMBRE

Vocabulario- Números  Complete “Numbers of Spanish” Chart  You may use your textbook or MacBook to look up the numbers. Google “BBC Spanish Numbers”  When you are finished, you may play the Spanish Numbers Practice Game on the BBC Website.  If you know your 1-10 already, go ahead and play the higher levels, like 11-20, 21-30, or 30-100!

The numbers 11-14 are similar to their counterparts 1-4. Look and see if you notice a pattern: 1 = uno once = 11 2 = dosdoce = 12 3 = trestrece = 13 4 = cuatrocatorce = 14 5 = cinco quince = 15 Notice how 11, 12, 13, & 14 are similar to 1,2,3,& 4. That leaves 15, which becomes quince. Can you see the similarities?

The numbers 16-19 are simply the number 10 combined with its counterpart 6,7,8,and 9 in Spanish. Do you see the pattern? 16 dieciséis diecisiete dieciocho diecinueve 17 18 19 Notice that when combining diez with another number, the letter “z” changes to a “c” and is followed by the letter “i” (which really replaces the “y” and translates to “and”, as in diez y seis, etc.). Do you notice the pattern?

Give it a try…  Click on the word that corresponds to its number: 12 once trece quince doce 15 diecicinco cinco quince catorce 18 ocho dieciocho catorcediecisiete

Now let’s try 20 - 29  The number 20 is veinte in Spanish. To count to 29, just add the number 1 (uno), 2 (dos), etc., to the prefix vienti- 21 veintidós 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 veintiuno veintitrés veinticuatro veinticinco veintiseis veintisiete veintiocho veintinueve Do you notice the pattern? Remember that the letter “i” represents the “y” or “and” as in veinte y uno. Now, the numbers from 30 and higher follow this same pattern. Are you ready to continue?

First, give the twenties a try… 24veinte veintiunoveinticuatro veinte y cuatro 26 veinte veinte y seis veinticinco veintiseis 29 veinte y nueve veintinueve veintiocho veintidós

Now, Let’s try the 30s… From here on out it is helpful to know that -nta (as in treinta) translates to -ty (as in thirty). Therefore, as tres is to three, treinta is to thirty. Likewise, as cuatro is to four, cuarenta is to fourty. Do you see the pattern? Can you guess what fifty would be?

cincuenta and 60………. sesent a and 70… setenta and 80… ochenta and 90… noventa

Now you only need to add the numbers 1 (uno), 2 (dos), 3 (tres), etc. with the letter “y” (and) to the numbers 30 (treinta), 40, (cuarenta), etc. Do you see the pattern?

Now, you give it a try… 32 tres y dostreinta y dostreinta y trestreinta 48 cuarentacuatro y ochocuarenta y ochocuarenta y dos 55 quincecincuenta y cinco cinco y cinco cincuenta 64 sesentasies y cuatrosesenta y cuatro sesenta y dos 78 setenta y ochosetenta y tresseiete y ochosetenta y cuatro 83 ocho y tresochenta y tresochenta y cincoochenta y sies 97 noventa y siete noventa noventa y sies nueve y siete How did you do? If you are feeling confident, take the quiz that proceeds. If you missed more than one on this quiz or would like a refresher course, return to the previous pages to review.
