I2 (Integrated Intermodal ) Two Project Goals Make it easier for current and would-be shippers to obtain accurate and timely information regarding available transportation alternatives within the Tri-State region. Provide both carriers and terminal operators throughout West Virginia with coordinated support in order to help them achieve cost structures that are competitive with higher volume providers located elsewhere.
I2 (Integrated Intermodal) I2 (Integrated Intermodal) is envisioned as an information portal to be housed within the Rahall Transportation Institute at Marshall and supported by the states of West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. Through I2, current shippers, prospective shippers, Development Office personnel, or any other interested party will be able to obtain detailed information describing the transportation facilities and services available within the Tri-State region, along with contact information for individual providers. I2 will also facilitate the design and implementation of new modal combinations when appropriate.
I2 (Integrated Intermodal) West Virginia Ports, Inc. (WVPI) is envisioned as a non-profit corporation tied to and initially supported by the West Virginia Public Port Authority. WVPI will be charged with developing cooperative programs designed to lower the unit costs of terminal operators and transportation carriers across transport modes and in all regions of the state.
