6 PRIMERGY Cool Performance
New Xeon CPUs save on Full performance, available all times power consumption More performance on less space Save precious data center space with the same power envelope Best-in-class cooling concept Increased longevity and reliability: Redundant fans Cut temperature by 15°C (electronics) Heat sink with Heat Pipe or 10°C (mechanics) for doubling life ! Independent air channels Extra air flow channel = Cool-safe™ system design For Electrical parts: 15°C is valid for half lifecycle! Best implementation of Intel’s new hot Xeon technology Highest 24x7 CPU performance available 64-bit Address Range Support More Reliability features – Raid on Motherboard, Integrated Mirroring On-board Server Management Controller (BMC) Best-in-class cooling concept “Cool-safe” airflow system design Redundant fans Independent air tunnels Heat sink with heat pipe Cool power management Increased lifetime Highest density packaging There are two ways to prevent heat breakdowns: Either improve cooling or throttle down the CPU – modern servers should offer both, but not every server vendor can do this. On the one hand Intel’s CPU comes with standard thermal and power management features to prevent heat. On the other hand these features can prevent the server from running with maximum performance because of a throttled CPU. Therefore Fujitsu Siemens Computers put much effort in designing cool systems which will deliver maximum performance whenever (24/7) and wherever (rack optimized or pedestal server) it is needed. The new housings host bigger fans and have a improved airflow (independent air tunnels, and a three-level split airflow concept). The bigger fans in combination with independent air tunnels ensure higher air throughput and therefore better cooling characteristics. Fans and power supplies can be chosen as redundant configuration, these redundant components are easy to exchange and even hot-pluggable. ps_prim-tower-sales.ppt :44: IP ESB PM CI © Fujitsu Siemens Computers All rights reserved

7 New PRIMERGY servers energy efficiency: Benchmark results (World Record)
The new SPECpower_ssj2008 benchmark enables the energy efficiency of industry standard servers to be measured and compared under defined standardized conditions for the first time: The PRIMERGY TX120 exhibits by far the lowest power consumption of all the servers for which SPECpower results have been published The PRIMERGY TX150 S6 achieved in the SPECpower benchmark a new world record for power/performance ratio for Industry Standard Server and the first result above thousand with a performance to power ratio of ops/Watt ( ) The PRIMERGY TX150 S6 further achieved the best SPECjbb results ( bops) for Quad-Core Xeon UP server (see: ). 23 Positioning of PRIMERGY TX120
Are you worried about the TCO of your server? Do you need a real server as small and silent as possible, installable in office workspaces for fewer concerns about a lack of space? Our TX120 servers provide peace of mind when choosing a suitable server platform, because they reduce TCO with at least ca. 40% lower power consumption versus other standard 1-socket tower servers Reduced space and size: 1/3 smaller footprint & 1/4 less volume, compared to current 1-socket servers in the market Advanced cooling technologies such as "heat-pipe" cooling and "straight-line cooling" achieve a low noise level equivalent to a whispering voice (28 – 31 dB). TX120 is a real, reliable and powerful server nevertheless! Raid 1 & hot-plug SAS HDD, up to 8 GB of ECC memory, Xeon UP server processor, server Operating System, integrated Remote Management Controller (iRMC) with advanced Pack option Perfect for office workspaces, for distributed and SOHO applications including retail in-store, back office servers and small office application servers. 79 Our Total Quality Commitment
Lifelong reliable: proof point PRIMERGY TX150 Designed for Quality, Developed for Resilience Operation time = up time without hardware caused failures, is calculated as 6 years according to standard industry quality methods, basing on guaranteed component & production quality experienced as 10 years according to field data collected by service organizations HW availability: % = 44 min unplanned downtime p.a., with 8h Service Agreement,– based on experienced failure rate Unique in class: thorough availability focus hot-plug redundant power supply hot-plug HDD, RAID PDA (Prefailure Diagnosis/Analysis) Integrated Service Processor and ServerView management Special Quality of all PRIMERGY servers concerning reboot cycles (tests with ca reboot cycles) Quality: Due to design, production and test characteristics, we expect these failure rates for a medium configuration in a typical PRIMERGY customer environment running a server typical operation profile: an experienced annual failure rate for all kinds of hardware defects of 10%. a calculated reliability (theoretical MTBF) delivers a failure rate of 17%  this means that statistically every 10 years (practically) or 6 years (in theory) some HW defect will occur. Using redundancy for PSU + HD, and a service contract for 8h repair time a theoretical availability of 99,992% is reached. This reflects an annual downtime of 44 minutes. Q Buzz words: MTBF = mean time between hardware failure, statistical value Practical MTBF = Value as experienced with medium system configuration, calculated from field service data (You do not expect that any field service is downplaying his role through lower failure rates, do you?) Calculated MTBF = statistical Value for medium configuration / medium usage profile (This is based on vendor data of component specifications – a reliable vendor would not risk his reputation and price level by assigning wrong figures), and on industry standard production technology ratings. HW availability = HW caused non operation time per year (p.a.) Quality at every step: It starts with design: ISO 2001 Q controlled design and verification processes. We invest in selection of components, using quality vendors, controlled and documented material take in, re-qualification when changes happen: this is strong differentiation to those system builders who shop at spot markets. Buying any cheap controller in the morning and delivering a barely tested system in the afternoon means – may be - a fast logistics, but for sure no quality! At first power up in factory, 99% of systems do work – such is quality due to extensive pre-testing of components and mother boards at all levels of integration. We run long term Burn-In-Tests – not just a short power up “it does not inflame” sequence. It makes a difference if testing just base functionality or max load operation – safe operation is ensured only by well thought-of intensive testing. We make sure through extremely intensified test scenarios and procedures, that the final product offers maximum stabilit. We test all load profiles, by testing all possible combinations of Controllers and bus loads, to ensure safe operation at maximum load. This is important as all bus systems are high frequency antenna systems whose characteristics vary under different load. This may result in racing conditions which leads to data corruption or bus holds in load situations. Such issues may occur once a week under heavy testing, or maybe once a year in normal operation. We make sure that no failure is allowed to happen in our release tests. Of course, this takes time, focus, and energy: we do invest one man year easily for extended testing – to make sure! Controlling operating temperature is essential for longevity: reducing temperature level by 10 degrees Celsius means doubling lifetime and Mean Time between Failure! We care for low temperature at design for all configurations. Visibly intelligent Board-Layout fitting to cooling system, using controlled air flow with air channel – “cool safe” With high frequency Systems, 2 Principles work against each other: high clock rates for performance and not as tuned more safe and less heat generating operation to increase MTBF and availability. With critical components, we take care that cooling is done in a way to ensure safe operation at maximum load. This know how brings availability of up to 99,992 % - 10 years of operation without service intervention for our HW. Quality at every level and step is essential for stability. And without testing 100%, we would not promise such MTBF – we make sure! By the way, we are working on constant improvement: from 2004 to 2005, average failure rate of all filed installed base was down again: by 5% Year over year! For non believers: for more details see notes ps_prim-tower-sales.ppt :44: IP ESB PM CI © Fujitsu Siemens Computers All rights reserved
