Subject : Science Topic: Our Environment Sub- topic: food chain Class : 10 th Time : 35 min.

General Objectives To develop scientific attitude. To create interest in the science.

Specific Objectives To enable the students to know the concept of Balance in environment To enable the students to know the concept of Balance in environment. to make the students well awareness about Flow of energy in living organism. to make the students well awareness about Flow of energy in living organism. Importance of living beings in environment. Importance of living beings in environment. Making their understanding about food chain. Making their understanding about food chain. Enable the students to analyse the different daily events in the environment. Enable the students to analyse the different daily events in the environment.

Motivation What is food? Are all the living beings depends on each other for their food? Dear students today you take rice. Would you tell me from where it comes. What is the term given to this sequential flow of energy in living being ?

On the basis of needs of life types of organisms 1.Producers : Those organisms which synthesize their own food. Give e.g

2. Consumer : Those organisms which depends upon producer for their food. Give e.g.

3. Decomposer: Those Organisms which depends upon dead organisms and organic matter. Give e.g.

Consumer Types of consumers : Primary consumers : Are those which depends upon for their food on green plants. They are also known as herbivores. For e.g Cow, Deer. Secondary consumers : Are those which depends upon herbivores for their food. For e.g Snack, bear. Tertiary Consumers : Are those which take their food from secondary consumer. For e.g Vulture, Lion.

Food Chain Producers, consumers and decomposers depends upon each other for their food. They make a chain that is known as food chain. Can you give another example of food chain?

Flow of energy: In this way all the organism get energy in the form of food from each other. 1.Producer make their food itself by photosynthesis, so they have 100% of energy. 2.Hervbivores get only 10% of energy from producer. 3.When we move from bottom i.e producer to tertiary consumer energy level decrease 10% of each level.

Activity-Arrange these organisms according to their food habit G1: Lion, Grass, Dear G2: Snake, Grasshopper, Frog, Grass G3: Algae, Small Fish, Small Aquatic animals, big fish G4: Grass,Sparrow, Snake, Grasshopper, Eagle.

Home Assignment Q1: Make an aquatic food chain. Q2: If all the animals are herbivores, what will happen to the food chain ? Q3: If the amount of energy present in a producer is 1000J, then what will be the amount of energy in secondary consumers ?
