KMM-NoE „Knowledge-based Multicomponent Materials for Durable and Safe Performance” Type of Project: Network of Excellence Coordinator:IPPT PAN, Warszawa EU contribution: 8.1 M€ Number of partners: 37 (200 researchers + 60 PhD stud.) Number of countries: 10 Project duration: 4 years Continuation: KMM-VIN (Virtual Institute)
Intermetallics - a new generation of low-density, high melting-point materials for multisectoral applications Metal-Ceramic Composites (MMC, CMC) - designed to sustain complex thermo-mechanical loading or adverse physico-chemical environment Functionally Graded Materials (FGM) involving knowledge-based grading of metal and ceramic constituents KMM = Intermetallics + (MMC +CMC) + FGM

KMM-NoE (start date 1.11.2004): „ …This Polish led NoE did an excellent job: They have established a clear research roadmap (12 Research Tasks). Also the fragmented PhD programmes are being integrated They share infrastructure and databases. Their Virtual Institute will be based on local Competence Centers The legal form of their Virtual Institute will be a Research Association. A clear organisational Road Map was shown with financial business plan Financial durability is targeted via industry oriented research, training and membership fees and they foresee finances via paying clients. They work after strict Quality Assessment procedures, both internal and external..... We were very impressed with your work. It was a pleasant surprise. Congratulations!
