Culture Matters March 21, 2014 Objective: Explore common American cultural values, as well as those from other countries. Homework: No homework Do Now: Respond in your notebook: What is a common saying you hear in American culture? (Think TV, at school, in public etc.) Which values/beliefs are being portrayed through that saying?
French: Avoir les dents longues To have long teeth
German: Ich werde dir die Daumen drücken I’ll squeeze my thumbs for you
Italian: Mettere una pulce nell'orecchio To put a flea in someone’s ear
Japanese: 猿も木から落ち る Even monkeys fall from trees
Korean: 당근이지 ! It’s a carrot!
