7 7 Why is the TR Needed? ? Why do Water & Wastewater Operators need continuing education/training? ( often referred to as “CEUs”)

8 8 Why is the TR Needed? Knowledgeable Operators can better protect:  Public Health  Environment The more knowledge & confidence Operators have, the better they can do their jobs!

9 9 Why is the TR Needed? 1.Most Canadian & US Operator Certification agencies require:  Continuous and  Ongoing Operator training 2. BC’s requirement:  24 hours of ‘approved’ training relevant to the Operator’s certification(s)  Every 2 yrs

11 11 These challenges mirror what we have been told for years. The Report identified challenges that Operators experience when they try to obtain access to training needed for certification. Why? Ombudsman Report (2008)

17 17 What Does The TR Do? Recognized Instructors To be an EOCP ‘Recognized Instructor’ You must have 3 yrs + direct, hands-on experience with the proposed topic, or Have a demonstrated ability based on experience to teach a proposed topic Ex. Suitably trained & qualified product reps

18 18 What Is Required? To be an EOCP Recognized Instructor, we:  Don’t require a certificate in teaching  Do need to know what experience you have with: 1. Working in an area of water and/or wastewater that could be a topic for a course. 2. Conveying ideas, getting operators to be able to apply what they learn. Key: If you don’t know how it works, you don’t get to teach it!
