1 Register Online…… is there a benefit? Registering online gives you, the student, the advantage of being in total control of your course selection, semester schedule and payment programs, with the convenience of 24-hour access. You may set up an authorized user or a payment plan with automatic withdrawal to take the headache out of making sure your tuition is paid by the designated deadlines, which will lessen the chance of losing your classes. Every USU Student has the capability to use the online registration system. A few quick Registration FAQ’s What if I need authorization for a course? Every authorization required can be done electronically by your academic advisor, which will allow you to register online. Who is my academic advisor? You can find your academic advisor via Access (Banner). Click Student, Student Records, Advisor, and Student Program Information. What do I do if my password doesn’t allow me to log in? Select – SR = seats remaining, C = closed section, blank area = you are either registered or on the wait list, open box = seats available (available seats could be reserved for students currently on the waitlist), NR = no registration available at this time CRN – 5 digit number used to register the course WL Cap – total number that my be on the waitlist Subj – course pre-fix (ECN= economics) WL Act – total number that IS on the waitlist Crse – course number WL Rem – open waitlist spots Sec – section number XL Cap – cross-list cap (between both courses) Cmp – campus where course is taught (M = Logan Main Campus) XL Act – actual students registered (includes both courses) Cred – credits XL – Rem – spots remaining between both courses Title – course title Instructor – Instructor of Record (if known) Attribute – general education requirement Date (MM/DD) – Start and End dates or alternative teaching method Location – Building / RM # Days – scheduled days (R=Thursday) Time – scheduled time Fees – class fees in addition to tuition & student body fees Books – link to course materials for this section Cap – total # of students who may register for this section Act – number of students actually registered Rem – remaining open seats Page 9

11 USU Registrar’s Office, 1600 Old Main Hill, Taggart Student Center 246, Logan, UT (435) (ph), or (435) (fax) If there is a blank box in the Select column for the course you need, click in the box and scroll to the bottom of the page where you can click on either Register or Add to Worksheet. By clicking Add to Worksheet, you will see that the course CRN is placed in a worksheet, but does not register you for the class. You can find additional courses by clicking Class Search. When your worksheet is complete, click Submit Changes. This process will double check any restrictions you may have in registering, such as: link error (needs a lab ), pre-requisite and test score error, seating capacity, wait-listing position, time-conflicts etc. Page 11

You will also see the total number of credits registered along with any Registration Add Errors. The Status indicator will tell you the reason for the error. Some of these errors will be explained in more detail later in this tutorial. Page 12

Continue to search until you have all required CRN’s. Please be aware of time-conflicts and pre-requisites for each course. A Time-Conflict will require the authorization from BOTH instructors on the “Registration Options Form” A Pre-requisite error will require the authorization from the course advisor on the “Registration Options Form” (use the link above). The course advisor can be found within the department the course is being taught. (i.e.: The Accounting advisor is in the Accounting Department in the College of Business, COE Advising Center, Bus 309). Advisors can also be searched on the Undergraduate Advisor Directory by going to and click on the link to view or print the list of advisors.www.usu.edu/advising/advisors Registration errors can be electronically authorized by the academic advisor allowing you to register online. When you’re ready to register, click Submit changes. Page 14

Please keep yourself informed by reading ALL notifications when you are logged into ACCESS (Banner). This will inform you of refund time frames as well as notation on your transcript*** To view the Dates and Deadlines schedule, go to From here you can choose the specific semester. Please note: summer semester has multiple sessions. Please make sure you are viewing the correct session for accurate information. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR FINANCIAL AID COUNSELOR ABOUT THE IMPACT OF DROPPING COURSES. THE REGISTRAR’S OFFICE DOES NOT HAVE FINANCIAL AID RULES ON HAND AND WILL REFER YOU TO THEM FOR ANY INFORMATION. FINANCIAL AID Are you ready to proceed with dropping a course? Log into Access (Banner) and follow steps 3, 4, 5, & 9 (pages 4, 5, & 16 above). When your class schedule is displayed you will see the drop down box/s under Action. Click on the drop down box next to the course you would like to drop and choose one of the options listed and click Submit Changes. Step 8 Page 20

If you have made an error and cannot re-add the course that was mistakenly dropped, please contact the Registrar’s Office IMMEDIATELY for assistance or PLEASE CHECK YOUR FINANCIAL STATEMENT BEFORE YOU LOG OUT.
