2. ABOUT YOGI VEMANA UNIVERSITY Yogi Vemana Univeristy, an emerging premier state university among the newly established universities having its head quarters at Kadapa, YSR district, Andhra Pradesh. The main campus of the university is located 15 Km away from Kadapa city on the Kadapa- Pulivendula Road. The University has adequate infrastructural facilities viz., majestic buildings with modern architecture and laboratories with sophisticated instruments and hostels with modern amenities in a serene atmosphere. The University has at present 27 departments with highly qualified and experienced faculty members. The university is moving forward with its aim of creation and dissemination of knowledge, attainment of enlightened wisdom through advancement of true learning, teaching, research and service. ABOUT DEPARTMENT The Zoology department was started from the academic year 2008-09. The department is providing academic training for masters degree in Zoology and giving guidance to the students for CSIR-UGC-NET Examination and creating awareness in competitive exams. We are also conducting student seminars, debates etc. to make them strong in academics. We also have Zoological society where all students and faculty are active members and using this platform for conducting invited lectures by experts. The research programme is started from July 2010. The vision of the department is to undertake research work and conduct seminars/ conferences both National/ International level on issues like Biodiversity, Conservation, Health education and, Environment. ABOUT THE THEME Environmental protection is a practice of protecting the natural environment on individual, organizational or governmental levels, for the benefit of both natural environment and humans. One of the important problem arise is loss of biodiversity if we don’t protect environment properly. We should all recognize the importance of biological diversity, as it is the symbol and symptom of a rich, healthy world. Multiple threats in the form of over hunting, habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation, pollution and climate change are affecting the fragility of biodiversity on a large scale. Many important species and ecosystems will disappear over the next century if proper conservative measures are not taken up on war-footing. We need to identify the problems and management objectives for sustainable conservation of biodiversity. In this conference we will discuss the approaches to be taken up for the better management and protection of environment. The lectures, oral/poster presentations during the conference will highlight the significance of conference.
