3 NORTHERN CALIFORNIA 3 Respondents in Northern California are concerned about Internet safety. Over 9 in 10 are concerned about identity theft and viruses Northern California is also concerned with the increasing number of Internet safety threats. 83% of respondents say that Internet safety threats have increased in the past five years and 75% say they have increased in the past year Respondents in Northern California would switch to an ISP that would provide them with protection. 72% say that they would be likely to switch Internet service providers if provided with software to protect against identity theft and 75% say that they would be likely to switch Internet service providers if offered a team of customer service agents trained to handle online security issues Northern California is not confident in ISP protection. Only 57% are confident in their ISP to protect them against identity theft

4 Northern California puts an emphasis on personal responsibility. 60% of respondents in Northern California hold themselves primarily responsible for keeping their personal computer safe from threats, versus only 47% of Gen Pop adults. Despite confidence in themselves to keep their personal computer safe, respondents in Northern California are more likely to use the same password across multiple accounts. 40% of Gen Pop adults use a unique password for each online account, versus only 26% of respondents from Northern California More Northern California residents have logged onto a wireless network without entering a password (51%) than Gen Pop adults (28%) Northern California is more aware that what goes online stays online. While only 40% of Gen Pop adults believe that what goes online stays online, more than half (51%) of Northern California respondents believe this to be true NORTHERN CALIFORNIA 4 Gen Pop AdultsNorthern California

5 NORTHERN CALIFORNIA 5 Northern California is more split on charging heavier data users more. While two-thirds of Gen Pop adults believe that ISPs should provide everyone the same amount regardless of data consumption, only 55% of Northern California respondents share this opinion.
