3,3-Diindolymethane BATTLING ESTROGEN PROBLEMS
INTRODUCTION At a certain age in a woman’s life, she starts becoming infertile and produce less estrogen. Giving birth at that stage in life puts the baby at risk because she has less estrogen in her body which stimulates the production of breast milk and hormone boost is required to keep the production balanced. It is found that 3, 3-Diindolytmethane is a very good androgen; it acts like an estrogen which is a hormone responsible for development of sexual characteristic. Testosterone is responsible for sebum production; sebum causes the production of oil. Excess testosterone causes excess production of oil and the presence of propionic bacteria brings about the development of pimples or acne.
HYPOTHESIS. 3,3-Diindolymethane is a good antiandrogen and anticarcinogen and this can be used to increase estrogen levels in the body. 3,3-Diindolymethane can be used to cure pimples or acne with the help of an antibiotic like penicillin
HOW IT WORKS 3,3-Diindolymethane is similar conformational geometry and surface charge distribution to an established synthetic AR antagonist. It inhibits androgen induced androgen receptors. DIM can be an antagonist or agonist depending on the ligand attached to it.
BACKGROUND 3,3diindolymethane can be found in plants of the Brassica genus like cabbage cauliflower, broccoli etc. it is produced from the autolytic reaction of glucobrassicin involving the enzyme thioglucosidase. This reaction occurs when the cell becomes dead and rupture or self-destruct. During this rupture the lysosome releases the enzyme, thioglucosidase that causes the autolysis of glucobrassicin and produces 3,3-Diindolymethane. 3,3-diindolymethane is a good anticarcinogen and antiandrogen.
SYNTHESIS A molecule Indole-3-carbinol found in cruciferous vegetables in acidic conditions produces different molecules and 3, 3-Diindolymethane. The indole-3-carbinol undergoes acid oligomerization. Indole-3-carbinol is formed from the hydrolysis of glucobrassicin which is found in the cell wall of cruciferous vegetables.
