How to view this Slide Show Each slide will build itself with no assistance Push the down arrow key on your computer to advance to the next slide I recommend that this presentation be viewed as a power point slide show and not from a hard copy…there is animation in the slide show that will be lost if you only view it from a hard copy. Revised for 2015
Judging the Region 10 & 11 Road-eo Guidelines on Administering the Rules Revised: 3/4/15
Mission Statement …that NTAPT will provide maximum information for judges and contestants, so each will know exactly how the other party will be viewing and scoring the 11 road-eo events.
Grievance Committee Laura Carter Thomas Campbell Mike Horn
General Guideline Comments Seat Belts must be worn at all times Head Lights must be on at all times Must not adjust outside mirrors to positions that do not reflect normal driving characteristics No cell phones will be allowed on bus, no signaling from non-participants Once you step off the bus, no protest will be permitted
General Guideline Comments…cont’d You may use a seat cushion, but cannot attach any device to the gas pedal or brake pedal Each contestant will have six minutes to familiarize themselves with the bus, and ask any questions of the judges as to the operation of the bus.
General Guideline cont’d The sequencing of the following events do not reflect any resemblance to the actual order of today’s road-eo. All General Guideline rules will judged in the “make ready” area... if you have not complied with the rules, you will be disqualified in the “make ready” area (will not be permitted to leave the ready area).
Offset Alley Timed Event: 0:02 Will be judged on : Continuous forward motion Clearing all objects No backing allowed for this event Note: each time bus comes to a stop – 8 points will be deducted from score.
Offset Alley Time Starts: Front Bumper Enters 1 st Barriers Time Ends: Rear Bumper Exits 2 nd Barriers
RXR Grade Crossing & Right Turn Event Not a timed event Is a timed event Contestants will be judged from the time they approach the railroad tracks until they complete the right hand turn (RxR Crossing) (Right Turn) This is a combined event (two parts)
RxR Grade Crossing & Right Turn Event Use of directional signals & mirrors Opening door & window Checking the tracks both directions RxR Crossing will be judged on : Closing door before crossing the railroad tracks Driving across the railroad tracks Stopping the bus (during event)
RXR Crossing & Right Turn Event…cont’d Stopping more than 15’ but less than 50’ when approaching & after crossing the RR tracks
Use of signals & mirrors Improper us of 8 light “School Bus Flashers” Stopping during turn RxR Crossing Right Turn…continued: Completing turn within 15 sec or less Right Turn will be judged on :
Scoring Templates RXR Crossing & Right Turn Event…cont’d
RxR Crossing & Right Hand Turn…cont’d Helpful Hints: You should look at the mirror you are pointing to…not just point with finger, hand, arm. Failure to come to a stop after crossing tracks is considered the same as failure to complete event
Straight Line Not a timed event Will be judged on : Moving the bus forward in a continuous motion between sets of tennis balls (the bus tires may not touch or knock off the tennis balls)
Straight Line The speed a contestant uses to complete the event is not to be considered. The bus/wheels must not stop during the completion of the event
Diminishing Clearance Not a timed event Will be judged on : Moving the bus forward in a continuous motion between sets of “Stingers” The speed a contestant uses to complete the event is not to be considered. The bus/wheels must not stop during the completion of the event
Diminishing Clearance Will be judged on : Touching “flag tips/stingers” Touching or hitting/running over standard base holding flags
Diminishing Clearance Once bus has started the event, the bus must be in a continuous forward motion
Back Up Stall Event A timed event: 00:03 Time will start: When front bumper passes first upright pole indicating the box entrance Time will end: When bus is parked in box and horn is sounded (signaling the driver has completed their efforts to make additional adjustments)
Back Up Stall Event New for 2015 Road-eo Back Up Stall will be 100’ deep For a successful attempt to complete the event…the bus must be positioned in the rear area of the Stall
Back Up Stall Event 100 Feet Wheel limitation Line
Time starts Free Zone Backup Box Identifies the entrance of Backup Box Back Up Stall Event Wheel Limitation Line
Free Zone With horn sounding time ends now Free Zone Back Up Stall Event
Event will be judged on: Not touching the wheel limitation line Not touching entrance poles, or lines that make up the edges of the box By placing the rear bumper in a one foot box (free zone) Leaving event between the two entrance poles
Back Up Stall Event Event will be judged on: Setting the “spring brake” Sounding horn Number of pull ups after events starts (After first backup, demerits will be assessed for each forward motion)
Back Up Stall Event Rear of “back up box” One foot Four feet Free Zone Five feet Center of Box Not to Scale
Back Up Alley Event Wheel Limitation Line OKNot OK Front edge of tire may be over limitation line and be OK. Any part of tire that touches limitation line, is not OK.
Left Turn A timed event: 00:00:15 Time will start: Left Rear Dual Tire touches the first “scoring marker” template Time will end: Left Rear Dual Tire touches the second “scoring marker” template
Left Turn Event will be judged on: Activating turn signals Not touching curb line Covering (touching) both scoring templates completely Failure to cancel turn signals
Left Turn Enter Turn Exit Turn May not touch any portion of Curb Line Scoring Template Direction of travel
Parallel Parking Event A timed event: 00:03 Time will start: When front bumper passes rear barrier on approach Time will end: When bus is parked and horn is sounded (signaling the driver has completed their effort to make additional adjustments)
Time starts now Parallel Parking Event…cont’d Curb Line Barriers
With horn sounding time ends now Parallel Parking Event…cont’d
Event will be judged on: Use of mirrors & turn signals Failure to cancel turn signals Not touching curb line Not touching the barriers Setting the “spring brake” Sounding horn Parallel Parking Event…cont’d Number of pull ups after event has started (allow two pull ups entering and two back ups exiting)
Measurements will be made in two(2) areas…flat surface behind front door & flat area nearest the back of the bus. Parallel Parking Event…cont’d Measurement will be from the area that is the greater distance from the curb to compute demerits.
