Thank you for your interest in our web distributed notes from our weekly bible studies. Some content had to be removed from these slides for copyright purposes, and thus the slides by themselves can be difficult to follow without the original animation sequences, and accompanying notes from the actual study, but we pray that you will still find them useful. You may send any questions to myself at pastorjerry@qrbf.org and I will try and get answers back to you in a timely manner. pastorjerry@qrbf.org You may re-use these slides in your own bible studies, both personal and public, and arrangements can be made for accompanying notes and original slide presentations once copyright issues have been resolved. 3 Jude: The Bible’s Fascinating Little Book! Acts: The Beginning of the Church Age The Acts of the Apostles Jude: The End of the Church Age The Acts of the Apostates Apostasy: To Turn away from or abandon one’s belief, faith, or religion James, Jude. James:Good works as evidence of saving faith Jude:Evil works as evidence of apostasy

Jude (short for ‘Judas’) was Jesus half brother, brother to James, leader of the Jerusalem church Who was Jude? Mar 6:2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? Mar 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. Mat 12:47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. Mat 12:48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? Mat 12:49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! Mat 12:50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. Psa 69:7 Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face. Psa 69:8 I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children.

1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1Co 15:5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 1Co 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 1Co 15:7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. 1Co 15:8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. Joh 7:3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. Joh 7:4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. Joh 7:5 For neither did his brethren believe in him. Joh 7:6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. Jude is the only book devoted ENTIRELY to the great apostasy. Luk 18:7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? Luk 18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

The Great Apostasy 2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 2Pe 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2Pe 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 2Pe 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

2Pe 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 2Pe 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 2Pe 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 2Pe 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. A preeminent Oxford zoologist was taking questions after giving a speech, and was asked about the discrepancies in the theory of evolution, and was asked what his response was when even the “unwashed” public could see this makes no sense. This was his response: “Scientists are highly educated, well trained and intellectually capable of processing all types of information, and they can make the correct critical distinctions between fact and fiction, reality and fantasy. The unwashed public is simply incapable of functioning on this high mental plane.”

Rom 1:18-32 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. (That’s the theory of evolution in reverse) Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Method of approach: 1) It was a letter, so let’s read it as a letter. 2) Let’s go back through it and pick up the meaning, Jude’s point he is making. 3) Let’s see what we can learn from what he says, and how he says it. 4) Let’s dive into the “spooky” stuff! Assurance for the Christian1-2 The Believer and the Faith3 Apostates Described4 Apostasy in O.T. 10 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

“I sat down to write to you about our faith to encourage you, but the Holy Spirit impressed on me to write to you about apostates among you that have crept in without your notice.” “Don’t you remember that God took vengeance upon those who claimed to be followers that were among the Children of Israel in the wilderness, but in actuality were not followers? He did the same with the angels that abandon their heavenly bodies before the flood, and also brought vengeance also upon Sodom and Gomorrah who, in like manner, were guilty of pursuing unnatural, and strange sexual perversion.” “In the same way as those Angels and as Sodom and Gomorrah, these apostates defile themselves, despise those in authority, and speak evil of dignities. Even the Archangel Michael, when disputing with Satan over the body of Moses wouldn’t even reach to take that position of authority, but rather deferred to God’s authority in the situation by saying ‘God rebuke thee’. “ “But these apostates, having only the knowledge of natural man, corrupt themselves even in that, and have pursued money, and led revolts against those in authority above them. Even Enoch prophesied of them when he prophesied about the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring judgment upon the ungodly, and to show them the errors of their ways.” “They are a blemish in your church, thinking they are above reproof. They have no substance, they accomplish nothing, they are destined for hell, spewing their doctrine which is nothing but a meaningless babble. They speak great and lofty words, speaking what others want to hear, rather than the truth.” “Remember that the disciples wrote and warned you these people were coming. Remember the truth of Christ, the admonitions there in, and watch for His coming. Have compassion on some of these apostates for your compassion will make a difference. On others, work to save them, despising even the clothes they wear, but saving the soul.” “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”

Jud 1:1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: Jude does not call upon his authority as the half-brother of our Lord Jesus Christ. Rather, he calls himself a servant. Rev 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Sanctified…by God the Father Preserved…by Jesus Christ Called…by whom? (unnamed) Holy Spirit Turns out, there is scripture indicating we are called by all three. By The Father: Joh 6:65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. By Jesus Christ: Joh 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. By the Holy Spirit: Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

Jud 1:1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Rom 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. Rom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Rom 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. Rom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Jud 1:2 Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. It has to be in that order. First Mercy, before you can have peace with God. Then peace with God must proceed love (agape, fellowship, koinonia), then agape more abundantly. Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Isa 57:20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. Isa 57:21 There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

Jud 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. Joh 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. (John 16:27, 17:20-23) Beloved? Who are they? Act 17:3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ. “It was needful” in the Greek is ‘Echo Enagke’ = It was an absolute imperative 1Co 9:16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! 2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Jer 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

Jud 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Exhort you, earnestly contend: Paraclete epagonizomai Paraclete:(v) to come alongside, to encourage, to comfort (n): The Comforter Epagonizomai:Military term meaning to agonize upon, or to contend strenuously in defense of How are you faithfully fulfilling this exhortation? - Strengthen the hands of faithful pastors or tape ministries (Rev 3:20) - Unflinching witness; diligent preparation (v. 20) - Withholding support and encouragement from those who compromise or deny the whole council of God - Speak out against the preaching of “another gospel” (Prov. 19:27) - Work with a sword at your side (Neh. 4:17-18)

Jud 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Keep in the Faith 2Co 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? Faith is a Mystery 1Ti 3:9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. Faith will be departed from 1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Faith involves duty to others 1Ti 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Faithful teaching established churches Act 16:5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily. All believers need exhortation to stand fast and continue therein 1 Cor. 16:13, Acts 14:22 Any claim of additional revelation is a sign of apostasy Deut. 4:2, Rev. 22:18-19

Jud 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. There is a great need for “combat Faith” Ephesians 6 – Put on the whole armor of God, defensive and offensive, active warrior Jud 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Why did Jude write this letter? Because of verse 4. Why must we contend for the Faith? Because of verse 4. There are tares among the wheat! (Mat. 13:24-30) False Brethren have stolen into the church! (Gal. 2:4-5) The saints are in peril! (2 Cor. 11:26) In later times, doctrines of demons! (1 Tim. 4:1,6) Pre-written warnings: Enoch (v. 14,15)

They Pervert the Grace of God They pervert the grace of God into lasciviousness Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Tit 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Tit 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Rejection of the word of God happens whenever it is displaced by tradition, custom, creed, loyalty to an organization, etc. They deny our only Master and Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 2:1-2)
