Policy level: Finland "Teacher education should be reformed as a continuum where the pre-service education, so called induction phase and in-service education form a solid and coherent whole which supports the development of teachers' expertice. Every teacher must be garanteed a right to have in-service education in their induction phase. Mentoring should be developed as a key activity in the induction phase.” (Opettajankoulutus 2020, 46-47.)
Policy level: Finland The national concern has been underlined also in the OSAAVA program (2010-2016), launched in September / October 2009 aims at improving the in-service education of teaching personnel OSAAVA JOKO - national funding for developing mentoring programmes
Collaboration between the Finnish and Swedish speaking districts of Finland Initiatives have been made so as to enhance the collaboration between the Finnish and Swedish speaking districts of Finland in developing mentoring. Peer group mentoring launched in Tampere district Peer group mentoring is being launched in Tampere district in 2009-10. In the six municipalities of the area, including Tampere, 25 mentors are educated so as to run peer mentoring groups. Supporting newly qualified teachers in Eastern Finland A new project has been planned to develop support for newly qualified teachers in collaboration with University of Joensuu and the major cities in Eastern Finland, Joensuu, Kuopio, Mikkeli, Pieksämäki, Savonlinna and Varkaus. Steps forward in the collaboration with the Northern European Network NQTNE The NQT-COME project organizes a series of seminars 2009 – 2012, based on the comparative research done by the research and development network Newly Qualified Teachers in Northern Europe (NQTNE).
