3 WHY SHORT-TERM ADVISING? Ensures students are taking classes needed for their degree Ensures they are registered for courses they are eligible to take (pre-requisites met) Answers transfer questions they may have

14 UNDECIDED STUDENTS 20-50% of college students enter college undecided 75% will change their major during the college career Almost 50% of students change their career path after graduation (including me!)

15 WHY IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THE REGISTRAR TO ASSIST UNDECIDED STUDENTS? Graduation rates in a timely manner Career success after graduation Helps students save time and money especially with new federal guidelines such as SAP

16 WHAT CAN WE DO? Online assessments Knowledge of career paths for majors in your institution Discussion with the students about their interests and talents Network with local business to encourage students to shadow careers in which they may be interested
