Today – Monday, February 11, 2013 Warm Up: Simplifying Radicals Learning Target : Review for Ch. 6 Quiz CHAPTER 6 QUIZ TODAY! All Chapter 6 Assignments Due TODAY!
WARM UP: Simplify the following radicals
REVIEW 6.1: RATIOS, PROPORTIONS AND GEOMETRIC MEAN
RATIO: Comparison of 2 values written as a fraction in lowest terms with similar units. GEOMETRIC MEAN: A special proportion- Denominator of the first fraction and numerator of the second fraction are equal. Where a and b are numbers. Solve proportions and geometric means by CROSS MULTIPLICATION!
PRACTICE: Find the geometric mean of the following numbers.
REVIEW 6.2: PRACTICE USING PROPERTIES OF PROPORTIONS
PROPERTIES OF PORPORTIONS:
REVIEW 6.3: SIMILAR FIGURES
SIMILAR POLYGONS: two polygons that have congruent corresponding angles and side lengths are proportional. SCALE FACTOR: the ratio of the lengths of two corresponding sides of two similar polygons.
PRACTICE: Determine whether the polygons are similar. If they are write a similarity statement and find the scale factor. Check that the ratios of the corresponding side lengths are equal.
ANGLE/ANGLE SIMILARITY POSTULATE: If two angles of one triangle are congruent to two angles of another triangle, then the two triangles are similar. TRIANGLE PROPORTIONALITY THEOREM: If a line parallel to one side of a triangle intersects the other two sides, then it divides the two sides proportionally. CONVERSE OF THE TRIANGLE PROPORTIONALITY THEOREM: If a line divides two sides of a triangle proportionally, then it is parallel to the third side.
PRACTICE: Determine whether the triangles are similar. If they are, write a similarty statement. Explain your reasoning.
Write a proportion using Triangle Proportionality Theorem Substitute known values Cross Multiply and check that they are equal.
LAST MINUTE QUESTIONS???
CHAPTER 6 QUIZ You have up to 30 minutes to complete your quiz. Are you prepared? Pencil? Calculator? Chapter 6 notes ONLY allowed If you finish early: Finish any missing assignments. Work on something quietly as the rest of your fellow classmates complete their quizzes. NO TALKING. STAY IN YOUR SEATS. RETURN ANY BORROWED BOOKS & CALCULATORS
ALL ASSIGNMENTS DUE TODAY! If finished, work on other assignments: HW #1: Pg. 360: even HW #2: Pg. 367: 3-12, HW #3: Pg. 379: HW #4: Pg. 376: 3-12, 33 Practice 6.3 Worksheet HW#5: Pg. 384: 3-14 Pg. 400: 5-11, 16-17
