H.S./C.: it’s the new High Speed/Capacity line MODHALOR: is a special train-convej, designed for trucks-containers transportation. AF: stays for “Train-highway”. 10 ALPIN RAILROAD PASSES : FINAL REPORT (3/3) The sensitive decreasing of MilTons of freights trasported via Monte Bianco & Frejus happened without a reduction of the trucks, because the efficiency of road-transportation has been reduced: - Reduction of the goods-weight. - More zero-load travels caused by the ‘just in time’ equirements. In Switzerland there is an opposite situation, where an increasing of the goods has been possible without a direct increasing of the transportation needs. This is due to: - The fiscal politics (tax on the trucks passage) that has stimulated the efficiency. - The adaptation to the weight-limits imposed by the UE.

11 NEW-LINE- PROJECT (ITALIAN PART) Italian national design, RFI, 47km (Settimo t.se - Borgone of Susa) - 6km Venaria tunnel - 3km bridge - 13km trenches or relief routes - 23km Musinè-Gravio tunnel International design,LTF, 72km, 28,5 in Italy (Borgone - St-J.de Maurienne) -5km Bruzolo station and junction betw. EXISTING and NEW lines -12,1km tunnel of Bussoleno -1km bridge on Cenischia torrent -10km tunnel from Venaus / France boundaries

12 NEW-LINE PROJECT (FRENCH PART) French national line, (up to now has not been delivered to any contractors), is 135km long. (St-J.de Maurienne - Lyon) - 20km tunnel Belledonne - 20km Chartreuse - 97km trenches or relief routes In Total: 72 km of international route, with a max. contribution of 10% from UE funds.

13 SUMMARY 50km of 1-way-tunnels for discenderies, inspection- galleries and the safety-infrastructures are not considered In this evaluation.

14 COSTS ESTIMATION: calculation bases According LTF statements, the international route completely built-in a gallery (72kms long) wouyld achieve a cost of 6,7mld.€, then the cost per km will result as: about 93mil.€/km (for tunnels) For the Torino-Novara costs, we’ve evaluated the following costs: 1,426mld.€ per 23km, will result as: about 62mil.€ /km (open air)
