2. One day, Jimmy and his classmates were going out to the playground. All of a sudden Jimmy’s teacher had seen Jimmy picking his nose.

3. “Jimmy, Stop picking your nose!” Ms. Green had shouted. But Jimmy did not listen and got a bloody nose.

4. Once Jimmy had arrived to the nurses’ office, he had not known why his nose was bleeding, so he had asked the nurse why that had happened. The nurse had told jimmy that sometimes, when a person picks their nose they can get a bloody nose.

5. The first question that popped up in Jimmy’s head was, “what are boogers?” “First, to understand what boogers are all about, you will have to know what mucus is.” the nurse said. “Do you have any more questions?” the nurse had asked. “What is mucus?” asked Jimmy.

6. “Mucus is the sticky, slimy stuff that's made inside your nose which in other words called snot. Mucus is very important because it protects the lungs. When you breathe in air through your nose the air contains many things like dust, dirt, germs, and pollen. If we did not have mucus, we can get sick and our lungs can become infected. But mucus helps all of the bad things stay away from your lungs and stay in your nose, but not just mucus protects the lungs.”

7. “What else protects the lungs?” Jimmy asked.

8. “There are these little tiny hairs called cilia which when the bad stuff gets into the nose, the tiny hairs help move the mucus and the trapped bad things like dust and dirt towards the front of the nose or the back of the throat. When the mucus and all of the other bad things are together that is when a booger is made. Do you know how boogers feel like?”

9. “Yes, they can be squishy and slimy but sometimes tough and crumbly!” yelled Jimmy. “Correct, everybody has boogers so don’t be ashamed to have them. They are a way of showing you that your nose is working correctly but instead of picking them do it the correct way by getting a tissue and blowing your nose because picking your nose can make your nose become a bloody nose. “said the nurse.

10. “Thank you nurse!” said Jimmy. “No problem Jimmy, I hope you don’t have to come back again with a bloody nose!” said the nurse.
