Substitution: Real- World Problems

2
Learning Target I CAN solve real- world problems leading to systems of linear equations.

3
You have learned to write single equations in two variables. You can use this skill to write two equations in two variables, as the following example shows. At a carnival, 700 tickets were sold for a total amount of $5,500. An adult ticket cost $10 and a children’s ticket cost $5. Find the number of adult tickets and the number of children’s tickets sold.

4
Determining and Analyzing What the Important Information is!!! This problem gives you data about the numbers of tickets and the prices of tickets, so the given information can be organized into a table. Let the two variables represent the number of adult tickets sold and the number of children’s tickets sold, because this is what you are asked to find. Let a be the number of adult tickets sold and c be the number of children’s tickets sold.

Real-World Example #2

Think-Pair-Share You and your partner can choose any two problems from problems #29 – 38 on page 380. Both of you must show your work, provide your explanations, and provide your answers on your own paper. You may help each other and work together on the two problems that you choose. Again, even though you are working in pairs, each individual student is required to produce their own work. Please be prepared to share your work tomorrow with the entire class
