-GO verbs There are some verbs that are irregular in the YO form, with a stem change adding a g to the stem [like TENER – yo tengo] These verbs have the same type of stem change: HACER – to make / to do PONER – to put / to place SALIR – to leave TRAER – to bring
These verbs have a stem change only in the YO form: HACERPONER hagohacemospongoponemos haceshacéisponesponeis hacehacenponeponen SALIRTRAER salgosalimos **traigotraemos salessalístraestraéis salesalentraetraen **Note that the YO form of TRAER adds an i along with the g to the stem!
HACER and PONER are used in idiomatic expressions [does not translate directly from one language to another] : hacer un viajeto make [to take] a trip hacer la maletato pack the suitcase poner la mesato set the table
There is one other common verb similar to these. The verb VENIR is conjugated like TENER with a g added to the YO form and an e>ie stem change in the shoe VENIR – to come vengovenimos vienesvenís vienevienen
